I just watched the new jurrasic park flick. One of the more annoying things to me about the film (and those things are legion) were how the flies or mosquitoes which buzz about the sickly dinosaurs apparently have their own boom mikes. They were really, really loud is what I'm saying.
Anyway, my question is if (and I know its a big if) dinosaurs were to be cloned and more or less set free in some sort of open-aired environment, would flies and/or other pests pose a threat to the dinosaurs? It seems that modern flies and their ilk would be carriers of various diseases from which dinosaurs would have no immunity. Conversely, would these hypothetical dinosaurs likewise be a risk of spreading some sort of disease to the pests which would then transfer up the food chain?
I know there are a some on this board who know much more about biology than I and might be able to answer this question. Also I'd like to think the two hours of my life lost in that movie might serve some purpose, even if it is just curiosity.
