A couple times in my life, especially when my fellowship with God wasn't broken, I have sort of "felt" like I was being moved to become a pastor. I've been told to do so one must be "called" and yet I've never had a clear definition of just what that means. I certainly feel in my heart and with my knowledge of the Word that I could do it.

Many people feel some sort of a pull or interest at one time or another. The advice that many pastors give to people who ask is that God's call comes over some period of time and nags at them. This is Him calling.

It is not merely a good idea at one moment in time, or several, which lead you to tick off the qualities you have that seem to be appropriate to performing the duties of a minister.

This doesn't answer your question very precisely, but there is a point in it you might consider.

To be honest, If you are being called, You will not be able to keep quiet about Jesus. It will burn in you and you will have to share it with everyone around. Like sharing in Walmart and gas stations and everywhere ya go
That is how was for me :]

I have pondered this as well. I think I should just see where I am led in my new church.

Also ask your minister to do a mini message. 15 Min or less at a time, I have started some this way and find that it works great for new ministers because many will get in front of people and give their "week long study sermon" in like three minutes out of nervousness :]

I remember someone once said that you shouldn't become a pastor because you can but because you can't not become one! In other words, if God is calling you and you are serious about listening, the burden will increase until you have to take action.

Show me is the Bible where it says you mush have a special and separate calling from God to preach the Gospel. As far a Pastor the word's in 1 Timothy 3:1 says all. "….If anyone desires to be an overseer he desires a noble task". There is nothing about a special calling from God, but there is some qualifications for the job further down the passage.

How old are you? VERY important question. It warns in the bible to be of age and not young or a 'novice' to pastor souls. Pastoring is a VERY high calling- and God will judge you on how you took care of the sheep. So if you are 40 or over that sounds good. Always operate in love. If there are any personal issues like control or anger ,that needs to be dealt with before pastoring. Age, wisdom, knowledge and a deep sacrificial love and deep humility are must haves.

I'm 32. Will be 33 in less than 6 months. Expecting my first child next year if that means anything.

But let us also add please no more preachers that jump in and start without the Holy Spirit leading. We have enough of those spewing heresy.

Timothy was very young and Paul sent him. I believe if the Holy Spirit is calling then preach :]

I'm not God so I cant guage how you would fit. 30 sounds very young to be pastoring. But Im not the one to say. For you I would develop christlike qualities in full, study pastoring and be very particualr in prayer about it. Ask God for oppurtinites to pastor. Who to connect with-what church etc. God will raise you up naturally you wont have to push or anything to pastor it will just happen you will fall into it. But, as experience I was harmed greatly by a pastor and it was due to lack of aggape love and humility. Pride is very dangerous to a pastor.

1 Tim 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
That is all we have, As far as I know

Qualifications for pastoring includes maturity and that comes with age and having a seasoned walk with God- the Bible warns against ordaining young pastors and you are not showing me his age only his teaching.

Yes, the Holy Spirit leads us by way of the Holy Scriptures, if we preach the Word and only the Word heresy will never inter, but those who think they are led be the Spirit but violate the Word always leads to heresy. I see all the time on those TV Preacher programs and they are all saying the Holy Spirit is Leading them. " The Holy Spirit say you need to send me more Money"

Yes. Pastoring is not just a title. If it is your gift, you will be doing it anyway, so practice for years to increase your gift. Be Pastoring as much as you can where you are, because God has you there to learn, and keep looking for a paid position if that is what you want eventually. Pastors are not nec gifted at teaching as well, or other things, so like the other posts say, use this time to practice, and work out other things inside yourself

Well it's hard to ignore that Paul calls him young. That is scripture. Also if the Holy Spirit is leading then who cares, It isn't about the pastor, It's about the Word of God.
