I think he won because many thought he was the lesser of two evils.

I voted Third Party for the first time in my life this last presidential election because I voted my conscience and chose not to compromise my values to vote for the less of two evils. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are both deeply corrupt and immoral. And if these two candidates were the best that both political parties could come up with to represent their Party then the political system in America is extremely screwed up and ensnared in the illusion that there is a lesser of two evils.

I honestly think these two candidates reflect the corruption and immoral behavior of both of these primary political parties, otherwise these two candidates would never have been chosen as the final presidential nominees in the first place. I think that speaks volumes of America's political system.

The Trump thing I cannot explain. But the Clinton machine stole the nomination from Bernie.

Yes, the nomination was stolen from Bernie. I voted for him in the primaries. I still like him and I would support him again. I particularly like his political platform on social justice issues.

I'm a Bernie supporter and I'm not convinced he could have won even in a fair fight due to superdelegates.

That’s the stealing I was referring to.

As unfair as I find the notion of super delegates they are a legitimate part of the Democratic Party’s nomination system to call their use theft is hyperbole.

And he was the nominee because the Right abandoned character as being important.

I honestly do not think en masses there was a conscious decision to abandon charecter. I honestly believe people were sick and tired of the same old song and dance and Trump spoke some things, while unrefined and crude, that many people could support and relate to.

Yeah. In the primaries almost everyone was better.

On paper, yes. They outspent Trump, but still didn’t get their message across effectively.

I walked away from voting Republican. I am not likely to again. I did not in the last 2 presidential elections. I may not always vote for a Democrat, but I won't be giving any Republican my votes, especially for national elections.

Yeah. In the primaries almost everyone was better.

I've noticed that a lot of Trump's supporters try to make the claim that "well, he wasn't my first choice, but he was better than Hillary" to save face during debates when they start painting themselves into a corner. However, many of the people running against him in the primaries were labelled as "Republicans in Name Only" (can't use the acronym anymore, because it was added to the 'banned' list for some reason).

To clarify, not referring to you here at all...just making a general statement. I know you're not a huge Trump fan lol.

That mystifies me. I mean I truly and honestly understand the ingrained desire to have a president who breaks the mold (easily 1/2 of our movies seem to have this as a characteristic...a straight-talking president who says what is right despite what would be politically expedient), but what Trump was saying was so manifestly false and so hate-filled that it makes me wonder what is wrong with our society that THAT was something people could "relate to".
