The irish (the people actually living in Ireland) voted overwhelmingly to repeal the constitutional amendment.
The rest of the world (people who don't actually live in Ireland) despise them for it and despair for the "Catholic" Ireland.
Serious Question (which should elicit serious responses please)
Why should the Irish people work to maintain an illusion , the verisimilitude, of a tura-lura-lura, pastoral, Catholic country.
You guys do understand, do you not, that Ireland is a large knowledge economy based on hi-tech and services and is one of the richest countries in G-20?
It has the highest population growth rate, youngest population and largest net immigration of any country in Europe.
Seriously, Ireland isn't what you think it is anymore. The Church no longer controls the government, Catholics no longer make up 90% of the population, the secular society no longer holds Catholic morality as it's as the sole source of social interaction. Change happens. Do you not understand this ?
Change happens, but it is not all change for the better. Change for the worse is lamentable.Change happens. Do you not understand this ?
It makes me wonder how far the church is going to capitualte to the culture before they realise its not abortion, homosexual marriage, divorce, women priests or anything else the devil wants but the total destruction of the church sooner or later a line has to be drawn and sooner or later the devil will overstep that line (in my opinion he already has) and at the point the church must wake up and standup for the truth (in my opinion that time is now, even past due)
Yeah, ok, now that you've vented you spleen what is the Chruch going to do about it ?
The best answer I can come up with is withdraw from the social work they do in the secular marketplace.
Sell the hospitals, close the adoption agencies, shutter the halfway houses and shelters whatever.
Of course the devil probably want's that too. Because once Christians stop trying to heal, help, aid and improve the state of their fellow man they stop following the marching orders Christ himself gave to us on the sermon on the mount.
So......
.....name your poison.
Of Course we could just grow up, come to grips with the fact the hetro-religious societies are a real thing and allowing them keeps the peace and maintains justice and do what has to be done to keep doing our jobs as Christians.
Or not.
Name your poison.
