It is a good, but "first" step, indeed. It MUST go much, much farther! Try again, Mr. President! Lots of folks support the endeavor!

Having ventured out into the world before I can assure you lots of folk do not support the endeavour at all.

When the ACLU issues a press release stating that it isn't going to bother to challenge the order in court you can pretty much conclude that the order is useless.

The truth is the IRS is already hesitant to enforce the Johnson amendment and hasn't actually taken anyone down using it since about 1996. (To the best of my ability to verify - if anyone else has an example after '96 I apologize)

So.....

....the exec order is essentially meaningless.

What the religious people want is going to require some serious legislative changes.

The Johnson amendment was passed in the '50's for very legit reasons and getting even this far right, 1% serving Congress to repeal it would be rough going.
