Why? Because you can't find a pig being sacrificed? Why can't the idol Titus set up be the abomination?
I haven't found any "abomination" so far in all the historical texts. I am not fussy, just looking for something that is an "abomination" biblically speaking. "surrounding armies" is not an abomination.

I didn't ask you about an army, but about Titus' idol. Is that not an abomination?

Even though it's not written, if the idol was set up (which we know for sure) wouldn't the next thing to happen be a sacrifice of victory? Kind of stupid to put an idol in a temple and then NOT sacrifice to it. IOW the sacrifice is implied.

Titus' idol came about in 70 AD after the believers had fled, so it doesn't count... Since our admonition found in scripture states "when you see the abomination where it ought not, flee'...

I have no problem with it being an abomination, having the idol in the temple... just wrong sequence in order to fulfill the prophecy.

I understand you point.

My view is that the commencement was close enough in history to meet the requirements.

I agree. I was just wondering why you rejected that idol. I still believe the Roman army was the abomination. A defiled foreign army with the blood of YHWH's people on their hands, surrounding YHWH's holy city and standing in YHWH's holy land about to totally demolish Jerusalem is an abomination. Especially if they were carrying with them idols of their gods. Where did Titus get his idol? Did he just make it in 70 AD or did they have it all along going before them in war like Israel's ark or just in their possession? Did their standards bear the image of their gods? Even without idolatrous standards and idols, the army alone was abominable.

I do not reject the idol as an abomination. I am still looking for the abomination to cause the believers to flee either in 66 AD or 68 AD. Anyone who hung around for 70 AD were part of the general slaughter. Josephus says that more than 1,100,000 Jews perished and nearly 100,000 were taken captive.... He doesn't mention any escaping in 70 AD. Of the abomination of desolation to which Yeshua was referring to.. Daniel wrote, “They shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” (Dan. 11:31.)

Exactly. The period of the abomination of desolation stretches from BEFORE 66 AD to AFTER 70 AD.

Can anyone show me how "surrounding armies" is an abomination? In all the things that are called abominations in scripture, any type of "armies" is not an abomination. The surrounding armies from 66 - 70 were never recorded as an abomination is all the literature, historical documents, etc that I have read so far.

vis: I see it all as a single event: The invasion of Jerusalem and destruction of the Temple. That single event began BEFORE 66 AD, and ended AFTER 70 AD.

Gnat straining.
Adhering to the principles of scripture rather than writing your own rules to make scripture fit a learned POV or doctrine is not gnat straining. It is being a faithful servant and a Berean.

picking apart years and months rather than seeing general events is gnat straining.
