You're in a dying, irrelevant church that's focused solely on the needs of its older, long-time members. I see it everywhere around here. I started playing praise music at a church like that but I just couldn't take it after a while. Don't try to change the church. Instead, find yourselves a more-modern church where you and your daughter can serve and be excited about it because you're playing songs that are on
Billboard Christian and
Praisecharts. That's what I did, and now I play at three campuses of a well-known multi-site, at least twice a week and sometimes three, chasing after the unsaved. Big stages, big lights, big sound systems, big productions, monster video screens, huge energy going out from us to the worshippers and 50 times more coming back to us on stage, to the point where it's sometimes emotionally overpowering for us. Who's in the seats? Everyone from 14 to 80, every one of them alive, smiling, hands in the air, singing with us, and super happy to be there. It's the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is exactly where God wants me to be. You and your daughter would love it. We have a 7th-grader (female) playing keys on two of our teams. She's incredibly talented, and always super excited to be there.
Most modern churches' web sites will have a link to contact the worship team so you can set up an audition. Also check out their Facebook pages.
