The late Elisabeth Elliot once used this as the format for one of her radio programs.
Many of the points here pertain also to kids addiction to ANY screen. (Google for recent articles on children and addiction to computer/notebook/ipad etc screens)

I feel as though this article is a little outdated or the author is a little out of touch with reality. We live in the age of computer. With computer comes the interweb. The interweb allows for instant access to just about any content a human mind can possibly think of within the few seconds it takes to click a computer mouse. Being afraid of the TV is so 1967. If you took your favorite rifle and shot all of your televisions tonight you would still have a computer in which your children could access. The dilemma with that is you can't ban you children from the computer, if you do your setting them up for a life of failure. Whether or not we like it computers are an essential part of every aspect of human life in western nations. They are not only used in leisure settings but in schools, places of work etc. Children need to learn how to use them if they want to survive in the modern day and age. It boils down to being a good parent and not a helicopter parent who has 1967 fears.

Children are a gift from God and He cares about how they are raised (Psalm 127:3; Psalm 34:11; Proverbs 23:13-14). When God gives us gifts, He also gives clear instructions about their use.

When God led the Israelites out of bondage, He commanded them to teach their children all He had done for them (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; 11:19). He desired that the generations to come would continue to uphold all His commands. When one generation fails to instill God’s laws in the next, a society quickly declines. Parents have not only a responsibility to their children, but an assignment from God to impart His values and truth into their lives.

It's imperative that parents control what their children are watching/doing (especially the early years), on any screen, because most of the content on those screens focus on the worst that mankind has to offer and evil is glorified as good (see 2 Timothy 3:1-5; Isaiah 5:20). With unfettered access to TV and all the other devices, a child will grow up learning the values of this world, instead of the values of God.
