"Concise Theology: A Guide to Historic Christian Beliefs" by J.I. Packer Here is an excellent book if you are hungry for meat. Short, one or two pages for growth and learning by J.I. Packer. It's available now for donation at this link.
There is an explicit devotional book by J.I. Packer which edits quotes from his many writings. I would prefer the above book.

The first devotional book that I bought, long ago, was My Utmost For His Highest. Still love that title! Like many devotionals, it was not written by the author (Chambers) but compiled by another from various writings. My wife loves it, also, but often feels discouraged at falling short. What is not clear about this to many is that Chambers was speaking, mostly, to full-time Christian workers in his travels. Context is always key to understanding clearly.

The best devotional book that I bought, long ago, and to my regret, only started reading it in the last couple years, is C. H. Spurgeon's Morning and Evening. Unlike edited works by others, this was written by himself, specifically for a daily devotion. His pastor's heart shines throughout the book. You can find it free online to read.
