Since much of modern secular Easter is about gluttony or excess and originally had Pagan origins, maybe just acknowledging Jesus sacrifice with reverence and worshiping together with other believers might be appropriate without feeling obligated to adhere to other traditions. Being Vegan myself the good Friday fish question is clear cut lol.

It's not about obligation(s), but remembrance and celebration. There are certain traditional dimensions to these things for Holy Week and Easter Sunday, they aren't "obligation" they're simply part of the way we as Christians have done things and find certain meaning in them.

The blessed celebration of our Lord's resurrection isn't Law, it's Gospel. The point is here, on this day, we celebrate the most important event that happened in the history of the universe, and it is good news to you, to me, to the whole world. So, come, celebrate, rejoice in what the Lord has done for us, it is good news.

We are an independent Jesus Bible church, and we have palms in remembrance of Jesus and how they honored Him with palms or whatever they used. It is remembrance of Jesus and celebration of Jesus being our King and Lord and Savior and Groom :) I think that anything that is for Jesus does not belong to any one group. But how we do something is important, not promoting any particular group.

Hey guys, what are our obligations as christians for Easter, like today being Palm Sunday and on Good Friday? The catholic church celebrates with palms today and I am being told that is not a catholic tradition?

Hi mike,

As far as I am aware through the study of the Scriptures, there is no obligation for a believer to even acknowledge the time that we call 'easter'. It doesn't come up anywhere in the Scriptures that the early church, i.e. the church as described in the Acts of the Apostles ever even mentioned it. Throughout all of the epistles there is no mention of any special recognition for a day to honor the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior.

Now, that certainly doesn't meant that as believers we can't spend some special time of reflection and remembrance unto the Lord, but as far as any obligation? I don't think there are any.

God bless you,
In Christ, Ted

What is the thought behind re-enacting the palm procession when it was a failed understanding of the people that Christ's Kingdom was Jerusalem?

I understand the communion/last supper remembrance as Jesus commanded us but I don't see in the Bible the purpose for re-enacting the rest.

"When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it.” Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,

“Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!”

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
"

That's why we sing Hosanna, the Church shouldn't be outdone by a couple of rocks.

It is true how certain Jews misunderstood who Jesus is > John 2:24-25. But I consider that when Jesus rode on the ass there were people who knew who He is > Matthew 21:6-17. So, if we celebrate with palm leaves, we mean this along with ones who do understand what He was doing.

But it is clear how Paul says there are Christians who observe a day while others do not. And one is not to despise the other, but do what you do in the relating you have with Jesus. Romans 14:5-13

Collossians…15When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.16Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--17things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ

I am asking if palm sunday and good friday celebrations in a catholic church are their traditions ......
Yes they are.
.................or if non-catholic christians are obligated to or should do the same?
They are not obligated to celebrate them. But they generally do.

Both the idea that Jesus entered Jerusalem on Sunday and the idea that He was crucified on Friday are wrong according to the scriptures.

He entered on Saturday (the weekly Sabbath) in fulfillment of the selection of the Passover lamb typology.

He was killed at twilight on Wednesday in fulfillment of the sacrificed Passover lamb typology.
