Nonsense. We can just arm ourselves to the teeth. If we don't need a government for everything else, why do we need it for national defense?

If the government's so bad, I can't undertand why you want us to have a publicly-funded military: ours has a budget larger than the next 9 nations combined, and even if we cut our military's budget in half, it'd still be larger than China's military budget.

u.s._and_world_military_spending_chart.png
I did not say that the budget did not need to be cut and in fact I DO support cutting the military budget.

But you said,

You have to have government I am just for a VERY limited version. Mostly defense.

It sounds like your ideal government would consist mostly of military funding. If we can accomplish everything else with the government's help, why do we need its help for military issues? The 2nd Amendment talks about militias, so why would we need government for self-defense?

State and local government I like better for a number of reasons that is why I said that was assigned to the federal government ( or at least meant to.

I was JUST thinking what if we had a system that worked like medicare for everyone. They pay 80% and you make up the difference.

That's right--we could just go back to militias like we had in the beginning, which is what the 2nd Amendment is really about. We didn't have the military when the Constitution was passed.

That's basically what France has for its healthcare system. The government pays the majority and then you either pay the rest out of pocket or you get supplemental insurance to help pay for it.

I wonder how that system works there? Of course they have a smaller population.

The size of the population is the least of your worries, the will to provide healthcare for every American is what will kill a system like that in the US.
If anyone really would like to know how France and the rest of the civilised world provide health care for all of their citizens I will post a link to a video although you can find them yourself by typing 'T R Reid' into YouTube, it's called 'The healing of America'.

Why would the size of the population matter?
Well there are more people, so you would need more medical resources.

A smaller population also means less people contributing to the program.

Medicare for all is what Bernie Sanders wants to do. Have you done your research by going to the candidates' websites and see how they stand on the issues? If you intend to vote it might be a good idea to do this.

Well, right now that would be foolish considering there is a REASON I plan to additional insurance this year because in GA Medicaid will not get you anywhere. Medicare is better, but in talking to me my Uncle R 58 but on it due to disability ( after a two year wait) more people ( doctors) than I thought do not take it. Though it IS better than Medicaid in that respect.

I wasn't suggesting you get any type of insurance at all. Just seeing you didn't know that Sanders wants Medicare for all, I suggested, that before you vote, you could read all the candidates websites in order to see how each one wants to solve different issues, not just healthcare.

Georgia has not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Since Medicaid is largely administered on the state level, the quality of service can vary from state to state. Red states tend to have less comprehensive coverage than blue ones.

Well then what is with the long waits? It prevents people who need help from getting it.
Triage. There is always someone worse off than you in an ER, and they get helped first. So, the people that need the help aren't prevented from getting it. Also, they have observation rooms and often have to hold people there while waiting for beds to open up on various units.

Yes, I know. But that has nothing to do with my post. I didn't even mention Medicaid or what the other poster should do about her coverage. I don't know why she said what she said about her own coverage.
This is the post where she mentions a system like medicare.
