A Study of the Scriptures: All the New Testament Commands & Teachings.

This is a Bible study thread so as to discuss all the New Testament Commands and Teachings in Scripture so as to guide the believer deeper into the Sanctification process or into holiness.

Warning: Please Read Thread Rules Below Before Posting.

Rule #1. This is not a debate thread. This is a study thread. If you disagree with an interpretation or view expressed here, you can say how you disagree in one or two sentences, but you must provide a link to a new thread (or one that was previously created in the past) to produce your reasons as to not interrupt the purpose of this study.

Rule #2. I will put forth the Commands and Teachings (Taken directly from Scripture) and nobody else. Please no random mention of God's Commands or a general discussion of God's Commands within the Bible. If you disagree with how the Commands are put forth, state your reasons briefly in one or two sentences and provide a link to another thread to discuss such a thing. The purpose of this study is to stay on track with discussing the Commands and Teachings of the Bible. This is not a thread about the debate of the Bible or about how you disagree with someone. This is a Bible Study thread which is supposed to help enrichen your beliefs about the New Testament Commands and Teachings in God's Word. Also, there is absolutely no discussion about the Old Testament Commands or teachings here. This is strictly New Covenant Commands and Teachings for the believer today (That can be found in the New Testament).

Rule #3. Stay on point with only the Commands being currently discussed. No past Command type discussions that are really old. Please try and discuss only the current Commands under discussion. Granted, I will allow a few comments after a group of Commands has just passed, but such discussion should not continue on and on so as to interupt the current Command discussion or study. If you want to add to a past discussion on God's Commands (that has been over for a long while), start another thread. The purpose is to stay on point with each of the group sets of Commands I will put forth. This would also include refraining from telling a Command (or Commands) that is still yet future for us to discuss, too. If you feel a Command has been missed, please PM me and I will be happy to discuss it with you (and possibly add it). Thank you.

The Last Old Testament Prophet's Commandments (While under the OT):
(Which Lines up with New Testament Commandments):

1. Repent / Confess sins.
First mentioned by John the Baptist in the New Testament.
(Old Testament prophet, but later repeated by Jesus, John, and Paul).
(Repent / Confess your sins: Matthew 3:1, Matthew 3:6).

2. Repent / Turn From your Wicked Ways.
First mentioned by John the Baptist in the New Testament.
(Old Testament prophet, but later repeated by Jesus and Paul).
Words that sound similar.
(a) Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make your paths straight.
(Matthew 3:8) (Mark 1:3-4).

3. Bring forth fruits worthy of Repentance.
(i.e. Do those type of works for God that are worthy of your repentance.)

Jesus's Preparational New Testament Commandments (While Under the OT):

1. You shall not tempt the Lord your God (Matthew 4:7)

2. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve (Matthew 4:10)

3. Repent (Matthew 4:17).

4. Follow Me (Matthew 4:19).

5. Rejoice when you are persecuted (Matthew 5:12).

6. Let your Light shine before men (Matthew 5:16).

7. Your righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees or you will not enter the Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:20).

8. You shall not kill (murder) (Matthew 5:21) (Matthew 19:18).

9. Do not hate your brother without a cause or you will be danger of Judgment
(Matthew 5:22).

10. Do not call your brother an "Idiot" or a "Moron" (Raca) or you will be in danger of being brought before the council of God's people (Matthew 5:22).

11. Do not call your brother a "fool" or "reprobate" or you will be in danger of Hell fire.
(Matthew 5:22).

12. Settle an agreement with your adversary quickly (or make peace with them swiftly) otherwise they could take you to court and have you imprisoned. (Matthew 5:25).

13. You shall not commit adultery. (Matthew 5:27) (Matthew 19:18).

14. You shall not look upon a woman in lust; For by doing so, you are committing adultery with her in your heart (Matthew 5:28).

15. If your right eye or right hand offends you (Because you are looking upon a woman lustfully), it would be better if you completely remove your eye and your hand (metaphorically speaking) instead of having one's entire body being cast into the Lake of Fire.
(Matthew 5:29-30) (Matthew 18:8-9).

16. Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery. (Matthew 5:32) (Matthew 19:9).

17. Whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committes adultery. (Matthew 5:32) (Matthew 19:9).

18. Do not swear or make promises by anything. Do not swear by Heaven, Earth, Jerusalem, or your head, etc. Let your yes be yes and let your no be no.(Matthew 5:34-37).

19. Resist not evil (Matthew 5:39).

20. If any hits you on the one cheek, turn to him the other cheek, too (Matthew 5:39).

21. If any man sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also (Matthew 5:40).

22. If any man compells you to walk with him one mile, walk with him for two miles (Matthew 5:41).

23. Give to them that asks of you (Matthew 5:42).

24. Do not turn away him that wants to borrow from you (Matthew 5:42).

25. Love your enemies. (Matthew 5:44).

26. Bless them that curse you. (Matthew 5:44).

27. Do good to them that hate you. (Matthew 5:44).

28. Pray for them that despitefully use you and for those who persecute you.(Matthew 5:44).

29. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48).

30. Do not do give for the cause of God so as to be seen by others, otherwise you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven. (Matthew 6:1). Neither announce your giving before others like the hypocrites do who seek the glory of men (Matthew 6:2).

31. When you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing
Make it a habit to give to God in secret and He will reward you openly (Matthew 6:3-4).

32. When you pray, do not do so publically so as to be seen by others (Matthew 6:5).

33. When you pray, shut your door and pray privately (Matthew 6:6).

34. When you pray, do not use vain repetitions like the heathen does; For they think they will be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7).

35. After this manner therefore pray: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13).

36. If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: (Matthew 6:14).

37. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:15) (Matthew 18:21-35).

38. Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. (Matthew 6:16).

39. But when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face so that you appear not unto men to fast, but unto your Father which is in secret; For your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly. (Matthew 6:17-18)

40. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matthew 6:19).

41. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: (Matthew 6:20). For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

42. You cannot serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24).

43. Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. (Matthew 6:25). Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

44.Seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33).

45. Take therefore no thought for the tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. (Matthew 6:34). Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

46. Do not judge unless you have been judged yourself (Matthew 7:1).

47. Do not judge hypocritically. Take the beam out of your own eyes then you will see clearly to take the beam out of your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:5).

48. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, otherwise they will trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (Matthew 7:6).

49. Ask, and it shall be given you; (Matthew 7:7).

50. Seek, and you shall find; (Matthew 7:7).

51. Knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matthew 7:7).

Jesus's Preparational New Testament Teachings (While under the OT):

1. Speak God's Word (And live spiritually);
For man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God that proceeeds out of his mouth (Matthew 4:4) (Deuteronomy 8:3).

Be-Attitudes:
(Matthew 5:3-9):

2. Be Poor or Humble in Spirit (Be-Attitude #1).
(For the poor or humble in Spirit are of the Kingdom of Heaven)
(And they are blessed by God).
(And they will be exalted or lifted up - Matthew 23:12).

3. Be Sorrowful in a Godly way (Be-Attitude #2).
(For those who have a Godly sorrow will be comforted)
(And they are blessed by God).

4. Be Kind (Be-Attitude #3).
(For those who are kind will inherit the Earth)
(And they are blessed by God).

5. Be Hungry and Thirsty for Righteousness (Be-Attitude #4).
(For those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled)
(And they are blessed by God).

6. Be Merciful (Be-Attitude #5).
(For those who are merciful shall receive mercy)
(And they are blessed by God).

7. Be Pure in heart (Be-Attitude #6).
(For those who are pure in heart will see God)
(And they are blessed by God).

8. Be a Peace Maker (Be-Attitude #7).
(For those who are peace makers will be called the "Children of God")
(And they are blessed by God).

9. Do the will of the Father.
For he that does the will of the Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. For not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) (Matthew 12:50).

10. Hear and obey the words of Jesus.
For hearing and obeying the words of Jesus brings wisdom and security. For Jesus said, "whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:" (Matthew 7:24).

First mentioned by John the Baptist in the New Testament.
(Old Testament prophet, but later repeated by Jesus, John, and Paul).
(Repent / Confess your sins: Matthew 3:1, Matthew 3:6).

Here we see John the Baptist telling people to repent of their sins. We learn in verse 6 that they are confessing their sins as a result of his message (or words) of telling them to "repent." So repentance involves "confessing one's sins."

You missed the Cross entirely.

And NT Imperatives are always based on indicatives. The indicative statements of God’s presence and sufficiency are always the foundation for the fulfillment of those imperatives. Christ does not ask anything of us that He is not willing to fulfill in us by faith.

30. When you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing
Make it a habit to give to God in secret and He will reward you openly (Matthew 6:3-4).

This is a powerful Command from our Lord that I would highly recommend putting into practice in your life. For doing things in secret for God is huge. For it is tempting for us sometimes to want to boast about our lives involving God. But this is definitely not one of those times. Do certain things for God in secret. Keep them hidden and do not tell anyone what they are. They are your precious treasures just between you and God. It is for Him and Him alone to know what you do for Him out of your love for Him. Nobody should know about these things; And I mean... nobody. For what you do in secret, God will then reward you openly. Do you want to be rewarded openly? I sure do. It sounds exciting. What kind of amazing good gifts God has for His children for those who do things in secret for Him? Sometimes people do not understand that we are sometimes covert operatives for the Lord. We can be top secret agents for the Lord. Our mission (if we choose to accept it).... Is to love. Both openly and in secret before God.

First, this is not a debate thread. This is a Study Thread so as to lead the Lord's people into God's Rightreousness (According to His Word) (i.e. the Sanctification process). Read the Rules in the OP. If you disagree about something, please start another thread and provide a link to that thread so as to debate it there. This is not a debate thread.

Second, I believe in grace (and that I am saved by His grace (apart from works); But I do not believe the Lord's Commands and Teachings are in conflict with His grace, though. How can they be? Most of the New Testament is full of many Commands and Teachings from Jesus and His apostles. Do you ignore them? There are dire consequences to your soul in the after-life if you do ignore them. In any event, please do not reply to this post so as to debate. If you want to give a lengthy reply or a response of some substance, please provide a link to another thread so as to debate it there. This is not a debate thread. It's a study on the Lord's Commands and Teachings in the New Testament.

Thank you.
And may God bless you.
And please be well.

First, you don't make the rules here. Second, you only want to lead people away from righteousness and towards your works based self righteousness.

Well, first, there are rules in going off topic.

Here is a quote from the guidelines:

"2. Posting Guidelines

1 Stay on Topic. Some topics may meander from the original post as they progress, but please do not derail the threads outright. For example, do not turn a thread about the Talmud into a mass argument over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

http://www.christianforums.com/threads/new-forum-rules.6118625/

If you derail this thread from it's original intended purpose or it's topic, then I will contact a moderator for your disruptive behavior (In regards to the guidelines that they have laid out). Second, according to the thread rules I created: You are free to disagree or express your opinion. You are just not allowed to continually do so (So as to cause debates) and or to write long and lengthy debate type posts (That would lead to the same result). You can say how you disagree and then provide a link to another thread so as to discuss it. So if you feel it is wrong to study the Scriptures in regards to God's New Testament Commands, then provide 1 to 2 sentences as to why you disagree and then provide a link so as to debate the issue elsewhere on the forums. The purpose of this thread (or it's topic) is to study the New Testament Commands so as to lead God's people into the Sanctification process. This thread is not a debate about Eternal Security. It is a Study Thread and not a Debate Thread.

47. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, otherwise they will trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (Matthew 7:6).
This is one of those verses that we have to be careful when we talk about it. I never want to give the impression that I do not love someone and or a certain group of people (Even my enemies). For I am commanded by God to love everyone. But God says in His Word that we are not to give that which is holy unto dogs. What are dogs? Well, a person's behavior can determine if one is acting like a dog or not by the way they treat you. Are they always barking at you? Are they behaving more on animal instinct rather than in Christian love and respect?

But what is casting pearls before swine or giving that which is holy unto dogs? I used to think this was discussing the Word of God exclusively. But such is not the case. One's pearls can also be in one's special moments and experiences one has in their walk with Christ (or God). Sometimes unbelievers (and even self professing believers who have a wrong doctrine) demand that you have to tell them about your walk with God in order for them to believe you or in order for them to think you are legit in their mind on some level. But if someone does not hear God's Word from you, then neither will they appreciate the good God has done in your life. One would be casting one's pearls before those who would not appreciate it. Now, this can involve talking about the deep things of God within His Word with people, too. For example: If you tell an unbeliever about a deep teaching in God's Word you learned, they are going to just mock you all the more with it. If it is close to your heart, they are going to try and hurt you with what you told them. So the best course of action is not to give that which is holy unto dogs. Do not give them something to sink their teeth into. Yes, tell them about Jesus Christ and the basics of the faith. But do not share the deep things of God (Either in His Word or in your walk with Him). Keep that which is precious to you in the Lord close to your heart and guard it. Share your close walk with the Lord and your deep teachings with those believers you can trust (and who you know will build you up in the faith).

This is what it seems like to me too.

Well, I believe God does the work in the believer and I do not believe I can take the credit myself. Anyways, this is not a debate thread. If you disagree. Please provide only one or two sentences as to why you disagree and then provide a link to another thread as to why you think that the discussion and study of God's New Testament Commands equates with Man Directed Works Salvationism (Which by the way, I do not believe in Works Salvationism). Anyways, please do not disrupt this thread. It is not a Debate Thread. It is a Study Thread.

See Post #7 for the Posting Guidelines.

This one is beautiful. We can actually live spiritually by speaking God's Word. Preaching the Word (For the Lord) can save the souls of people; And good seed sown means you will reap good back. Also, Christ had conquered the devil by quoting Scripture. So if you want to live spiritually and you want to please God, then quoting Scripture in that thing that is tempting you will help you to defeat the enemy and sin in your life. Also, if you want to draw closer to God in your love for Him, quoting His promises and believing them will also help to deepen your walk with Him, as well. Scripture is also the way we answer those who are in darkness and who try to attack us (either verbally or physically). So speak the Word of God and live spiritually.

LOL. The rules you have created.....exactly.

The topic is to discuss the New Testament Commands as a part of a Study of God's Word. The point of this thread and it's topic is not to debate the New Testament Commands. it is to study the NT Commands and to offer insight into what God's Word is saying in regards to them. If you disagree with the thread topic, then start another thread with your own topic as to why you disagree. But do not continually disrupt THIS thread topic or I will contact a moderator. In other words, if Jim started a topic on squirrels and Rick kept talking about cats, it would be disrepectful and disruptive of Rick to do that. That is why there are thread rules in place.

In other words, if you offer two more disruptive posts as to why you disagree, I will contact a moderator.

7. Your righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees or you will not enter the Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:20).

Many today preach Once Saved Always Saved and that possessing righteousness (or having a righteous life) is not the basis of entering the Kingdom of God. But here we see Jesus say that our righteousness must exceed the Scribes and the Pharisees, otherwise we will not enter the kIngdom of God. Most in the OSAS camp will claim that Christ's righteousness is imputed to them so they have no need to be overly concerned in worrying about sin in regards to salvation because it was taken care of at the cross. While it is true that Christ does impute righteouness to a believer; This is only if they obey the Lord and respond to Him. For the Lord does the work of righteousness thru the believer if they yield to Him. Yes, the Pharisee's needed to accept Jesus. But Jesus did not say how they needed to simply believe in Him whereby they would not need to worry about sin (or in keeping God's Laws) anymore. Jesus did not say that. Jesus pointed out that the Pharisees problem is that they ignored the weightier matters of the Law like justice, love, and mercy. This would then help them to recognize Him as the Savior whereby they would repent of their sins to Jesus and walk in Christ's good ways.

Everybody should stay clear of this thread!

That is other people's prerogative to do so, of course. If you and others feel that that it is wrong for believers to study God's New Testament Commands so as to lead them deeper into God's holiness, then by all means, you and others are free to leave this thread on those grounds. Just do not continue to keep disrupting this thread in the process, though.

For if you provide two more disruptive posts (As to why you disagree with the thread topic), I will contact a moderator. For this is a Study Thread and not a Debate Thread. Please be kind and respectful to the topic or purpose of this thread. Thank you.

Side Note:

Again, please take note that you can disagree on what is posted in a comment I made on a New Testament Command in Scripture. You just can only provide 1-2 sentences as to why you disagree and you need to provide a link to debate it elsewhere. Thank you; And may God's love shine upon you.

Jesus's Preparational New Testament Commandments (While Under the OT):
(Continued):

52.The Golden Rule: Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them: (Matthew 7:12).

53. Enter in at the strait gate: (Matthew 7:13).
(For wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go therein).

54. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Matthew 7:15).

55. Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest. (Matthew 9:38).

56. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. (Matthew 10:8).

57. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves (Matthew 10:9-10).

58. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
Whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. (Matthew 10:11).

59. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
When ye come into an house, salute it.

60. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
If the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. (Matthew 10:13).

61. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
Whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. (Matthew 10:14).

62. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

63. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
Beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; (Matthew 10:17).

64. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
(When they deliver you up,)
Take no thought how or what ye shall speak:
(for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.) (Matthew 10:19).

65. In house to house preaching or missionary work:
When they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: (Matthew 10:23).

66. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: (Matthew 10:27).

67. What ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. (Matthew 10:27).

68. Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: (Matthew 10:26, 28).

69. Fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28).

70. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:
(I came not to send peace, but a sword). (Matthew 10:34).

71. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28).

72. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; (Matthew 11:29).

73. It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. (Matthew 12:12).

74. Whosoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come. (Matthew 12:32).

75. Make the tree good and it's fruit good. (Matthew 12:33).

Do unto others as you want done unto yourself. So if you want to be treated with kindness with words (Regardless if anyone does that for you or not), you should speak to them kindly. If you want people to drive properly on the road, do so yourself. In other words, we should hold others to the same standard that we are also keeping.

68. Fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28).
We are to fear not man but we are to fear the LORD who is able to destroy anyone both body in soul in "hell", (the Greek word for "hell" here is Gehenna - which is a reference to the Lake of Fire). In other words, a healthy fear of God will lead one to walk in His paths of righteousness for His name sake. In time, as one grows closer in their walk with the LORD, they will learn that perfect love will cast out fear. For their love is made perfect by obeying His Commands. For Jesus said if you love me, keep my Commandments (John 14:15).

I updated Post #1 to show the results or the benefits of the Be-Attitudes.
Check them out. You will not be disappointed.
Personally, I find the Be-Attitudes to be truly amazing.
For our Lord Jesus is so wise and good.
