Long time ago I went on a mission to England. While there my greeny (new Elder) and I had just got out of an appointment teaching and we're heading back to our flat. As we went past this street the spirit told me to go tract it. So I turned around and my companion asked where I was going. I told him we need to finish tracking this street. He said that we only had 15 min before we had to phone in to the Elders who were n charge of us. I said we need to go down this street, end of discussion. We only had three houses left n the street. I took the first door and didn't even get who we were out of my mouth. Th next door we did get our name out but with little success. My companion as getting ready to say I told you so when we knocked on the last door. A young adult man answered the door. We told him who we were and he said "Come on in, I have been waiting for you. I have been praying to God to send me some kind of messenger to tell me where to find the real truth about him." Well my companion about messed his pants. ...

What is a greeny elder. How do they meet the biblical qualifications of an elder -- or is this more LDS invention?

What qualifies you as an elder, then?

I mean, I know a lot of elders who are younger than me (I'm 24) so to be honest they're kind of hard to take seriously.
Elder is an office or position of priesthood in the Melchizedek priesthood

It's just what some lds call someone who is new to full-time missionary service.
What biblical qualifications do you refer to?

I found the following in the Bible that describe what Elders are or do:

- performed Passover sacrifice in the time of Moses and other sacrifices (Exodus 12:21; Leviticus 4:15)
- were often the first chosen to witness works of God or to hear words of God (Exodus 17:5-6; 19:7; Ezekiel 8-11)
- rulers among the people (Deuteronomy; 1 Tim 5:17)
- overseers to the flock, having authority given through the Holy Ghost (Acts 20:17, 28)
- were ordained in every city (Deuteronomy 25:8; Titus 1:5)
- were given responsibility for the law along with the priests of Levi (Deuteronomy 31:9)
- seventy were chosen apart from the rest (Exodus 24:1-14; Numbers 11:16-25)
- were priests (2 Kings 19:2)
- had authority in Israel to anoint the king (1 Chronicles 11:3)
- assemble together (Psalms 107:32)
- are ordained to be Elders (Acts 14:23)
- feed the flock of God (1 Pet 5:1-3)
- pray over the sick and anoint with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:14)
