• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Yes, and yes, but it has to be correct dosage. It worked best for me the first time I used it. I was unable to get for awhile and with restarting it was not as effective for me. Also make sure it is good quality. I have some fishy tasting burps on regular style but not bad so I have switched to enteric coated. Not sure if that impacted how well it worked for me or not.

Hello everyone, my doctor recently told me to try taking fish oil to help with my depression. I was wondering if anyone has used it and it worked for you. Doctor says I can't take antidepressant because it can make me go manic.

It works great for me! I love it. Try to get high quality if you can. After I started the fish oil, it was the first time in my life I didn't have seasonal affective disorder symptoms in the winter. It's wonderful.

I cannot speak for the fish oil from personal experience, but I have heard that it helps. I keep meaning to try it to supplement my meds, but keep forgetting to go buy some.

However, the AD for bipolar kind of threw me. AD mono therapy for bipolar is generally not recommended, for the very reason you stated. Are you on a mood stabilizer also, and just didn't mention it?

I was originally diagnosed as having depression and was put on antidepressants which worked great for a while, I actually felt very happy until one day out of nowhere I started hearing voices and eventually went manic. After that I was diagnosed bipolar and taken off antidepressants. Now I take antipsychotic and mood stabilizer pills but my depression came back. I've never felt as happy again as I was when I took antidepressants. My doctor has tried many different meds to try to help but none has worked better than the ones I take now. I'm hoping fish oil will work.
Does it take time to take effect? So far I still feel about the same.
