I personally love playing as a woman because I get tired of muscle bound males who are always the heroes. It always felt sexist that woman were left out. Its why Lara Croft is one of my heroes because she broke the mold.
And even though games aren't designed this way I'd like to think being a woman in game not only makes you faster and more flexible (for running, climbing..etc) but you are also harder to hit when being shot since your frame is shorter and your shorter. Like I said though games aren't often built around the two different sexes and how each would do in real life. Still fun to pretend at least.
In Mass Effect I was a red headed woman.
