Church Stats for Canada: Big Decline

Yep. I'd say we are much more like Europe than the US in this regard.

That picture you have is incorrect. And not only in regards to the stats you linked to, but also in terms of how vocal Canadians are about their religion.

I once went on a business trip to Houston. After my arrival at the airport, I was on a shuttle bus, and there were two preachers having a discussion about the Lord. On my shuttle back to the airport a few days later, there were two different preachers talking about the Lord. In my 36 years of existence in Canada, I have never once seen anything like that. So yes, Canadians are, in general, less religious. And in addition, those that are religious flaunt it less. It's considered more of a private matter.

One can only hope that it is, and that the trend continues.

It's disconcerting, to say the least. Canada was always a Christian
based nation like the USA. However, it's too obvious that western
world society as a whole, has been degenerating gradually over
the last 45 or so years. The hippie movement, with young men
and women drifting away from their Christian upbringings. Been
a downhill slope from there.



You'll still find a lot of churches up here, with a good number of
people attending them every Sunday.

Perhaps the notable difference is in fundamentalism vs. liberalism. The formal and high churches are losing attendance, I hear, but perhaps the more fundamental gatherings are gaining --do you suppose?

Here in the UK I've noticed that people are slowly but surely moving away from the more formal services to those that have a fairly standard sermon, some hymns and have passing conversations on the way out.

I don't think there's much loss with regard to the community aspect of faith, but I do feel that a lot of attendees are there out of tradition more than anything.

I know of a sound assembly at Richmond, BC, Canik, which holds to Scripture-only and not the religious ideas of men. It is part of that fellowship from the revival of 1827 AD.
