I find myself in conversations with other Christians or atheists who aren't Catholics but ask me why I want to be a Catholic. Since you guys are already Catholics can you tell me why you're a Catholic over say a protestant?

My reasons are
1)Catholic Church has the oldest Churches
2)The Catholic Church was blessed with putting The Bible together
3)The Catholic Church seems to teach the same thing everywhere and have structure, where as protestant church even of the same type can teach completely different things.
4)I think purgatory makes a lot of sense
5)In The Bible God gave the disciples(who were older priests) the ability to forgive sins, John 20:23, so confession makes sense
6)Catholicism seems to really study The Christian faith more than others, but I maybe wrong

those are some of my reasons but I find it difficult to articulate, your reasons and words would be great.

Thanks

I became Catholic when I was baptized so at 10 days old. I stay Catholic because I can not turn my back to Jesus in the Eucharist. I know the Catholic Church has that correct. Therefore, anyone who denies the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the Eucharist, is not listening to Jesus, for that is where Jesus is.

Mostly this but I would add that I don't fault cradle Prostants for not having a proper understanding of the Eucharist (no that you do Janice).

You are right. I do not fault those who have always been Protestant, taught by others that Catholicism is in error, or just have not taken the time to understand the Catholic teaching re: Eucharist.

I do fault those who are ex-Catholics who spread the lies they do about Catholicism and that the Catholic Eucharist is false.

I want to ask a dumb question -- not sarcast but I just don't know ...
What is purgatory? -- thanks for replies ...

Purgatory takes places after death and before most of us can enter heaven.

As the book of Revelation states, nothing impure can enter heaven. Since nothing changes from the moment before death to the moment after death as far as purity of one's soul is concerned, Jesus had to set up some way for us to be purged of the impurities on our souls.

The way to be purged of the impurities is known to us Catholics as Purgatory. No one quite knows what happens in Purgatory, but I suspect it is there where our souls are washed in the Blood of the Lamb.

Well the usual...I'm Catholic because of tradition and upholding family values.

Nah, actually the opposite. I was born into a non-practicing Catholic family who nearly never went to church (ultimately I think they only are Catholic because of tradition), and I'll also add that I've never been baptised (though living in the world's largest atheist country makes it hard to receive baptism without being killed).

Personally I'm actually happy that I wasn't baptised as a baby, because I was allowed to make my own choice to become Catholic. During my early teenage years, I drifted in and out of Christianity, sometimes considering myself a deist (I always had a belief in God, but I never really allowed Jesus into my life...I didn't know anything about the Trinity, so I though that Jesus was lower than God). Through the faith and the Holy Spirit, I discovered that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. There was no point in me praying to God, without knowing about Jesus first!

As for how I became/consider myself a Catholic...I believe that Jesus founded our Church, that the Church is His Body. I am not saying that all the other sects are wrong, as long as they believe that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour I have no problem, but I am rather skeptical about some of the newer forms of Christianity being created from the multiplying Protestant ones. The thing I adore about our Church is that we conserve Christianity, we ensure that it stays the same for future generations. This has always been the case.

Anyway could you please check out my thread about the attacks on our Church: http://www.christianforums.com/t7735770/

Thanks ^_^

Sorry was not meant to be rude. The reason for the question is that many reasons that people are not of the catholic religion are because of false lies that are told by others. I thought that if they were to say why they are not...then maybe we could state the truth. As we see it or is this sounding rude too? Not my intention at all. I don't believe in bashing any religion whether it be Catholic or any Protestant group. Please acept my apology to those who felt I was being rude. Truely I meant no harm
