Each year 36,000 Americans, and that is an extremely low estimate, die each year from lack of access to health insurance. Millions lack access to good care, causing many to die, and an estimated millions do not have any insurance at all.

The U.S. is ranked #36 in healthcare according to the World Health Organization of the countries it chose to sample, and #31 in premature death, meaning, it is HIGH according to the OECD, and #29 in total life span, meaning very low. Of total coverage, according to the OECD, it ranked slightly higher than Mexico, which was nearly last of the 40 countries sampled. Most countries with better healthcare had universal coverage. In terms of quality, the U.S. ranks significantly low e.g., in stroke care, ranks heinously high in surgical foreign object contamination, and has a high rate of emergency diabetes admissions which could be prevented. Of all the types of care, the U.S. was not #1 in anything according to the OECD, the highest ranking being breast cancer at #2, with Iceland ahead at #1. The others staggered significantly behind in the rankings, in the mid to lowest areas. The other countries also charged at maximum half for their healthcare than the U.S., sometimes a fourth of the cost, e.g., Japan which has the longest life span worldwide.

Jesus, who is God, states,

"Jesus said onto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."
Jesus's, God's words, Matthew 19:21

"Then Jesus beholding him, loved him, and said onto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me."
Jesus's, God's words, Luke 10:21

"But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind;

And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense for thee; for thou shalt be recomsensed at the resurrection of the just.

And when one of them that sat at meat with Him heard these things, He said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God."

Jesus's, God's words, Luke 14: 13-15

Matthew 5:42

Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

1 John 3:17

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

Hebrews 13:16

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Proverbs 31:8-9

Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

"When people are brought low and you say, 'Lift them up!' then He will save the downcast." Job 22:29

1 Sam. 2:8 He lifts the poor from the dust-- Yes, from a pile of ashes-- And treats them as princes sitting in the seats of honor. For all the earth is the Lord's And he has set the world in order.

Prov. 19:17 When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord--and he pays wonderful interest on your loan!

James 2:14 Dear brothers, what's the use of saying that you have faith and are Christians if you aren't proving it by helping others? Will that kind of faith save anyone? James 2:15 If you have a friend who is in need of food and clothing, James 2:16 and you say to him, "Well, good-bye and God bless you; stay warm and eat hearty," and then don't give him clothes or food, what good does that do? James 2:17 So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. You must also do good to prove that you have it. Faith that doesn't show itself by good works is no faith at all--it is dead and useless. James 2:18 But someone may well argue, "You say the way to God is by faith alone, plus nothing; well, I say that good works are important too, for without good works you can't prove whether you have faith or not; but anyone can see that I have faith by the way I act." James 2:19 Are there still some among you who hold that "only believing" is enough? Believing in one God? Well, remember that the demons believe this too--so strongly that they tremble in terror! James 2:20 Fool! When will you ever learn that "believing" is useless without doing what God wants you to? Faith that does not result in good deeds is not real faith.

---------------------------

Mat. 25:34 "Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, 'Come, blessed of my Father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. Mat. 25:35 For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; Mat. 25:36 naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me.' Mat. 25:37 "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Sir, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you anything to drink? Mat. 25:38 Or a stranger, and help you? Or naked, and clothe you? Mat. 25:39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' Mat. 25:40 "And I, the King, will tell them, 'When you did it to these my brothers you were doing it to me!' Mat. 25:41 Then I will turn to those on my left and say, 'Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. Mat. 25:42 For I was hungry and you wouldn't feed me; thirsty, and you wouldn't give me anything to drink; Mat 25:43 a stranger, and you refused me hospitality; naked, and you wouldn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.' Mat. 25:44 "Then they will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?' Mat 25:45 "And I will answer, 'When you refused to help the least of these my brothers, you were refusing help to me.' Mat. 25:46 "And they shall go away into eternal punishment; but the righteous into everlasting life."
-------------------

Luke 3:9 The axe of his judgment is poised over you, ready to sever your roots and cut you down. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire." Luke 3:10 The crowd replied, "What do you want us to do?" Luke 3:11 "If you have two coats," he replied, "give one to the poor. If you have extra food, give it away to those who are hungry."

--------------
Isa. 58:6 "No, the kind of fast I want is that you stop oppressing those who work for you and treat them fairly and give them what they earn. Isa. 58:7 I want you to share your food with the hungry and bring right into your own homes those who are helpless, poor, and destitute. Clothe those who are cold, and don't hide from relatives who need your help. Isa. 58:8 "If you do these things, God will shed his own glorious light upon you. He will heal you; your godliness will lead you forward, goodness will be a shield before you, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind. Isa. 58:9 Then, when you call, the Lord will answer. 'Yes, I am here,' he will quickly reply. All you need to do is to stop oppressing the weak and stop making false accusations and spreading vicious rumors! Isa. 58:10 "Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. Isa. 58:11 And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too; and you will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

Luke 6:20-21
. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours in the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

Prov. 29:7. The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor; the wicked does not understand such concern.

Prov. 19:17. He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed.

Prov. 14:31. He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.

Is 41:17. The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them.

John 10:30 "I and the Father are one."

(Some examples of MANY)
-------

"Heal the sick... Freely you have received; freely give."

Jesus's, God's words, Matthew 10:8
---------

Jesus, who is God, commands us to heal the sick, help the sick, and give aid to those who are in need. These commandments and Jesus's perfect, sinless example as God as a theophany shows us we should help those who need medical care, as it is a human right. Jesus commands us to help the sick, the poor, and the afflicted. Universal Healthcare is a Human Right, we must help their bodies and their souls, we must save lives and follow Jesus, who is God, and commanded us to follow Him.

the best solution to this problem is if there are prayers for the people who the medicine did not heal after all - how Jesus and His twelve disciples healed all sick people who they found/met at least?!, then why not it be possible also today there be a complete healing entirely through prayers before the true God and Jesus?!

Blessings

I disagree the part about it being a basic human right. Basic human rights are things like the right to defend yourself from an attacker, right to free speech implying a free human spirit, etc.

I do believe we should be offering it in the U.S. We can afford it, we owe it to our citizens. Not as a right, but as a privilege of being a citizen of a wealthy country.

As a Christian I am all for it. We should all be supporting any legislation which provides benefit to the poor, the helpless, the masses who cannot afford it.

I'm rather neutral on healthcare, so i'll just play devils advocate.

A right to healthcare? So a right to force someone else to take care of you? All those verses are great for individual initiative, in which case, why not form private organizations whom there purpose is to provide healthcare? Government's purpose is not to make you better or worse. Its purpose is too govern and only to govern. That there are people who require healthcare and do not have it, is no fault of the government. But the fault of a society where people see the government as the only venue to realize their agenda. Put it simply, they'd rather not do the leg work required in setting up a private organization. So...they care about the poor. But only enough to tell someone else to lift their own finger to do something about it.

A right to healthcare?

I suggest that you might further specify, "universal" healthcare. I agree, people do not have a right specifically to "universal" healthcare. "Universal" implies a particular method of delivery of healthcare. "Healthcare" is more general.

People do have a right to basic healthcare, according to the United Nations. Philosophically, this right is certainly debatable, but the U.N. did vote on it which implies that the majority of the people on the planet likely agree with it, which is supportive of the premise.

The link below goes to a treaty signed by member nations of the United Nations. Their idea of "the right to health" is spelled out.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Article 12, specifically - part of the definition of the right to health includes the right to healthcare.

I believe currently in the U.S. we satisfy this requirement for this right, although we do not satisfy it through "universal" healthcare as yet. There are probably other political/social systems which probably also satisfy it without utilizing a socialistic approach. The U.N. did not specify the "how", just the basic right.

I also believe the standard is dynamic. The right to health is applied differently for different situations, countries, economies...The U.N. would affirm that the citizens of Mongolia have their right to health, but their right is limited to what is available in Mongolia. Mongolians do not have the right to the sort of healthcare available to citizens of the U.S. To a degree, the right to health, per the U.N., is an ongoing mandate for all governments to continually be working to improve healthcare (access and quality) for all their citizens.

There is also likely a difference between basic health and advanced health. Most countries, probably every country, has at least a two tiered system. People on the bottom do get their right to health actualized, but they do not necessarily get the same health care as citizens who are able to purchase additional care. People on the bottom tier get basic health. The rest of us get advanced health. I believe that is unavoidable regardless of your delivery system.

free,NO!..affordable? YES!
Nothing is free anyway, which is why I contend that we should give people the OPTION to pay into the system, but if you do not pay you either do not get treatment OR you can pay for it out of pocket. I find it stupid that I pay taxes so I can have healthcare I do not want. I have come up with a contact if you like I can link you to the thread.

??? U don't like insurance?? U want to pay all medical bills out of pocket???
Yes, I HAVE insurance yes I NEED insurance but I feel that I should have the right to NOT have insurance if I do not want it. ( Look I may be 21 but I take 800 mg of prescription medication a day just to control two or three medical conditions ( depending on rather you want to treat my depression and OCD as one condition or two. I still feel that I should have the right to not have insurance and that people should have the access to the healthcare which they can afford.

Are you saying that Jesus, who Is God, should have charged the lepers, the sick, the maimed, the blind, the elderly, the children, the women, the men before healing them?

When did Jesus, who is God, say "before you give help to people, charge them, if they cannot pay, let them die?" For He, God, never said such.

"And, behold, there was a certain man before Him which had the dropsy.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

And they held their peace. And He took him, and healed Him, and let Him go;

And He said to them, "Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?"

And they could not answer Him again to these things."
Jesus's, God's words, Luke 14:7

"But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."

-------

"When Jesus heard it, He saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Jesus's, God's words, Mark 2:17

Jesus's, God's words, Mathew 9:12

Jesus, who is God, commands us to give humanity medical care, to help the sick, without compensation.

The fact is NOTHING is free. What would happen if I owned a house and decided not to pay the house payment? Or if I walk into a store with no credit card money ECT and try to get something? or if I do not own my car flat and decide not to pay the car payment? In ALL of those cases ( even if you HAVE to have that item a house, clothing for the whether ECT. You will either lose the item OR in some cases the person will have the OPTION of charging you with a crime and you get taken to jail. Where you will (usually) unless they let you go on your OR which depends on a number of things) remain until you either go to trial or make bail.

Why should I pay for taxes if I say that I do not want treatment?
By the way, actually that was poorly worded you COULD receive treatment, but ONLY if the person was willing to make a payment plan with you.
Note not paying would be an option if you wanted treatment you would pay into the system you just would not benefit from the "free" service if you did not. Just as it works with a lease or a work contract you choose to breach you pay the damages.
Note, I also did not say that you had to pay the same amount into the system no matter what you made it would be based on your income. Another example, my grandfather (almost 77) did not pay as much into the social security when he was younger ( owned his own business for most of that time and actually still does.) However, he still gets some money ( just not as much, but I did not say that the healthcare system would work on how much you paid in only rather you did or not.

I generally agree that Jesus supports caring and healing, especially of those in great need who are unable to pay for it. I do not buy the "for no compensation" argument.

Additionally, the above passage, is really more about the spirit, not the physical or the mental.

It is also good to remember that everybody does pay. We do not all pay cash, but we do all pay.

There are different forms of payment.

There are plenty of "disabled" people who convince themselves they are "disabled". I am not saying some people are not disabled, but many who claim disability are in fact capable of working. These same people have to sell this "disability" to their own soul. They have to sacrifice some spiritual freedom to take that government check. They have enslaved their souls to a self-image which is detrimental to their overall well being. 50 years ago many of these people who are questionably disabled would have jobs. They may have been happier. I know people like this. I have met them. Some go to my church.

Jesus does not want our spirits enslaved to poor health, demons, our our own fears and lowered expectations for our future possibilities for our lives.

To a degree, health care is based ultimately on the form of government present in whatever country you live in. Some governments support individual freedom, individual rights. Some, less so. There is always a price. It may not be monetary, but we all sacrifice something to get another thing.

In Holland they have euthanasia. In China, until recently, they only allowed one child per couple. In the U.S., with all our freedoms, persons who are injured in a car wreck and are likewise involved in suing the other driver for pain and suffering have been shown to suffer physical ailments more than those who choose not to sue. The reason they suffer more is thought to be because they need to justify the money they are going to get from the lawsuit. They have to have physical damage. So, they spend more time in physical therapy, and some never recover. That is both physical and mental payment.

In a centralized system there are dangers. The centralized non-Christian health administration can come up with all sorts of non-Christian programs and decisions. For example, in the reasonably Christian U.S. there were programs which forced the sterilization of citizens since the early 1900's for essentially being poor. It was finally discontinued in the 1960's. The people being sterilized were thought to be unfit to have kids. It was thought that their kids would not be productive, law abiding citizens. That is here, in our country, with our wonderful government, that was before the 1960's, when our government and culture went through so much change.

There are advantages to having a free market system. Our own country currently offers the opportunity for the best healthcare available in the world. Japan does well, but we actually offer the very best, across the board. Leaders and millionaires preferentially come to the U.S. for advanced healthcare. We lead the world in the invention of new medical devices and bringing new drugs to market. No other country compares. That is free market power.

The big drawback is that millions of our citizens do not have healthcare. They are forced to go to the ER.

I like many things about the British system. They do a better job treating their entire population for less money than we do.

So, people will "pay" mentally, physically, spiritually, politically, economically (as in what kind of economy do you have to have if you have socialized healthcare-Greek for example), and possibly of course with cash or insurance for their healthcare. Everybody pays. Every person pays something. We live in community. We all pay, one way or another, for everything.

The principle of "free health care to those unable to afford it" is not the only Christian principle in play here. I believe Jesus supports the principle of freedom and the principle of caring for those in need or in poor health, for example. There are probably other Christian principles which also need to be balanced in and considered.

Jesus did not necessarily tell us the specifics of how we are supposed to go about balancing and implementing these principles. And, we do not live in the sociopolitical age in which Jesus lived. Consequently, the application of Christian principles may be very different in our society.

Furthermore, we are not Jesus. We do not cure most people with miracles, wish we did. Our job, as Christians, is to balance the various applicable principles we follow as best we can. That includes planning for ramifications of how following one principle may affect the bigger political and economic lives of all our citizens.

Water here is privateized too There IS a public system ( in some parts) OF you live particular places. For example, my family has a well, even where there IS a city water supply you choose not to pay you receive none.

Jesus said if you turn your back on the needy, you turn your back on him. Argue with Jesus if you have a problem with the poor, sick and needy.
What I have a problem with the government in my healthcare and FORCING me to pay for others' healthcare I have NO problem giving money medical care ECT to the poor on my own free will. Look, my family just got done paying some medical bills three out of four people in this household are on what will likely be lifelong medications so I KNOW how much healthcare costs. I have considered forgoing mental health treatment when I knew it would cost money, yet it was clear to the people around me I NEEDED help. If you want to know more PM me, However, I do NOT feel that as an adult the government should make me have insurance. I also realize that no matter what we do the richer someone is the better care they will receive because they will buy higher quality and I believe they should have that right if you can afford it feel free to get whatever you want.

That's my point. You should get the healthcare you deserve. When I say you...I mean YOU and your family. Sure, the rich should have nicer things. But, we're talking about life, death and/or suffering. Big houses, big cars, flashy jewelry...I'm okay with that. But, nobody should have to go without health care because they don't have enough. I have a huge problem with that.

My father ( we have insurance thank goodness but anyway he said when he went for cancer treatments the bills we got done paying off though he still sees that doctor sometimes. There were some that would not pay their $2 and $3 copays. He too has an issue with people EXPECTING to be kept alive while not paying anything ANYTHING towards it. Now if there is something that can be done for that person yes treat them, but the people who KNOW they will get no better know that they are having a poor quality oflife pay for it yourself or get out of the system.
