The battle has begun to demonize these two potentioal leaders in the GOP.

Marco Rubio could stoop so low as to take a sip of water during speech.

How dare Ted Cruz ask questions about Chuck Hagel's failure to disclose answers to questions about receiving campaign funds.

Who's demonizing Marco Rubio about this? People are joking about him: it was awkward and funny. Even he's laughed at it.

How dare Ted Cruz ask questions about Chuck Hagel's failure to disclose answers to questions about receiving campaign funds.

Suggesting that his money could've come from North Korea is not merely "asking questions."

Funny that a republican is demonizing another republican, yet the topic is how this republican is being attacked. BTW, it wasn't that Hagel took campaign funds from anybody, that he got them from North Korea. That is where the McCarthy comparison comes into play. This guy Cruz will not last because his own party will end up putting him in his place, and the Rubio water incident was just a joke.

Sad, but true. My hope is that they can not only stand up under such attacks, but grow stronger by them.

And are you of the impression that the Right doesn't demonize non-stop?

The very second Obama stepped into office the attacks began and no amount of common sense or debunking stops them.

Day after day after day new demonization starts up.

Neither party is "good", but you can be guaranteed that the last 4 years of sowing that the Right has done will earn then the right to reap the whirlwind.

This is what happens when parties dedicate themsleves not to the betterment of the US but the denigration of whomever is on the opposing side.

You are completely right - very sad isn't it that we've come to this. Our whole government is built on lies, one after another.

Of course they're going to start the attacks early...the biggest threat to the Democrat party would a minority candidate running on a Republican ticket.

They already have a tried and true strategy put together for attacking rich white guys...however, if a Republican candidate of non-caucasion ethnicity and middle class roots made it to the ticket, it would destroy their phoney manufactured illusion of the Republican party being the "party of Racism".

If Rubio were on the ticket, it would expose this notion for the lie that it is and the Dems would have to come up with a whole new game plan.

Completely devoid of facts. Minorities on Republican tickets have a very low success rate.

At any given moment Democrats have more elected minority officials than the Republican party has had in sum.

Quite a bit of the "debunking" that you are mentioning was later debunked...

Let's get real here, to consider any media source as being a valid source when they are more interested in getting a photo-op of Obama and Tiger Woods, than they are in getting to the bottom of what happened in Benghazi (like the fact the Obama Administration lieing about it having to do with a stupid video) where 4 Americans died, is quite frankly laughable.

Cruz and Rubio are fake conservatives.

I woundn't call Rubio a fake conservative but I do think that he is more of a nice face than a serious leader of the conservative movement. While people are talking about Rubio's mishap drinking water live during response to the State of the Union, few people noticed the speech that Rand Paul gave. I liked what he had to say and felt that he provided a better and more effective response.

I almost feel sorry for Democrats in 2016. They are outmatched before the battle even begins.

The fact is that the gop do not represent the interests of minorities. This is why they are so proud of the few they can muster in their ranks.

It shows that statistics seldom results in 100% of any one thing. No one denies that minorities can become wealthy at which point their intersts are served by whichever party is most clearly aligned with the interests of wealth.

It is equally a lie to assume that the dems are only interested in enslaving the nation to some made up meme of universal laziness caused by welfare.

I don't think either major party represents the interest of minorities (or the interest of the majority either for that matter ^_^)

That's one democrat debating strategy that drives me nuts...call the GOP a racist party over and over again, then when a member of the GOP finally gets fed up and says "hold on, the GOP actually has many minority elected leaders", then the Democrats spin it and say "see, you're so self conscious about it, you have to mention that you have them in your party"

They make a false statement, then when you call them out on it, they use your call-out and try to twist it into some sort of self-affirmation for their preconceived notion.

It shows that statistics seldom results in 100% of any one thing. No one denies that minorities can become wealthy at which point their intersts are served by whichever party is most clearly aligned with the interests of wealth.

...again, another untrue statement. You make it sound as if the only reason a minority would back the GOP would be if they become wealthy.

Rubio only has a net worth of about a million dollars...not exactly "filthy rich"

It is equally a lie to assume that the dems are only interested in enslaving the nation to some made up meme of universal laziness caused by welfare.

I don't think anyone is assuming that welfare automatically causes laziness...a more accurate statement would be that it causes dependence.

As I pointed out before in a different thread, if you are going to take money from the taxpayers to provide assistance for others, it's better to put more of it toward education rather than welfare.

Clinton and Obama both came into office in similar circumstances...
Both took office during a tail end of near recession economies
Both inherited part of the bill for a Bush war
Both took office during times when social security expenditures were spiking

One ends up creating a $140 billion dollar budget surplus in 8 years
The other creates a $1 trillion dollar deficit in 3 years

1998-1999 Spending:
$300 Billion on healthcare (18% of the budget)
$200 Billion on welfare (13% of the budget)
$100 Billion on education (6.5% of the budget)

2011-2012 Spending:
$900 Billion on healthcare (25% of the budget)
$500 Billion on welfare (15% of the budget)
$100 Billion on education (3% of the budget)

...notice a difference in the spending patterns?

Look at it the same way you'd look at a situation with your own kids.

If you have a kid that's 20 years old and essentially broke, which would be a better plan and better use of your aid?

Give them $50,000 cash - no strings attached?
or...
Give them $15,000 cash and pay $35,000 for a college degree?

I'm sure the Democrats are really proud of Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin, William "Cold Cash" Jefferson, Jesse Jackson, Jr, and Hank "Tipping Guam" Johnson.

Sen. Cruz made me embarassed for our senate delegation. He basically accused a decorated Vietnam vet and former U.S. Senator - who served more years in the Senate than Cruz had weeks at the time of his hearing - of traitorous and potentially treasonous activites.

Oh, and by the way. On the "them" part of your post - Sen. Cruz was born in Canada.

And what exactly are "the interests of minorities"? That everyone get free stuff from the government?

Housing, education, immigration, and stuff like that. The typical GOP response or thought is that minorities simply want free stuff. That is why minorities avoid the GOP like the plague.

Really? Is that what you think? It is quite telling that you would characterize it as such. Quite telling.

No, here's a few of the interests of minorities you may have missed:

1. Marriage rights for same-sex couples
2. Livable minimum wage
3. Environmental issues in low income areas
4. Access to safe schools for their kids

#1 and #2 are fought against by the Right consistently. #3 is usually ignored or, as is often the case the EPA is characterized as a demon by the right. #4, well the only thing the Right can suggest is to test the teachers more (but not pay them more...and in fact the Right almost always complains about teacher salaries anyway...even though few of them would want to live at that salary themselves).

NOW in addition the Left does tend to focus on social welfare as well. But since few people who go on Welfare are LONG TERM ABUSERS it is kind of bizarre for the Right to demonize the nasty "47%" of the nation who are, in their estimation, leeches.

So it is fascinating that you think that the only thing minorities would care about is getting free stuff.

FASCINATING!
