Someone on another board claimed that because St. Paul quoted the Greek poet Aratus that should make Aratus "canon" if Enoch is, because Jude quoted him.

I replied:
Paul did not call the Greek Poet a prophet of God and quote the prophecy in part. Paul clarified:"one of your own poets said". There was never any confusion that the poet was not being called a prophet of God, whom Paul quoted from to prove a point. But with Jude [who is a womb brother of Jesus Christ], there was never any confusion that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, was a prophet of God and there is full confidence by Jude that Enoch the prophet's prophecy, which Jude quoted from, will be fulfilled.

Enoch was never banned by the Ethiopian Church, and Enoch was never lost to them from the beginning of the NT Church in Ethiopia, and 1 Enoch is on the list/canon in their Bible/collection of books, of sacred writings/scripture.
Two copies of Enoch were brought from Ethiopia in the late 1700's, to England, and translated to English in the early 1800's.

Many copies of Enoch were discovered in the Qumran Caves in the 1940's, and those copies of copies of Enoch were dated by carbon dating to the third century BC -but they were only copies of copies, and copies of copies which go back, all the way to Enoch, the prophet, the seventh from Adam.

The Qumran Cave Enoch manuscripts do not include the chapters on the Son of Man, but that does not mean they were not extant, nor that they will not be discovered in those manuscripts which are yet to be opened and translated; and those chapters are validated by what is in the rest of 1 Enoch, anyway, and by what is in the NT. Even the passage from Jude validates that section, because the "blackness of darkness forever" comment made by Jude is also from that portion on the Son of Man in heaven, as sole judge and LORD of Glory, before whom all the Watchers and unrepentant sinners bow the knee to and confess as the Great LORD of Glory.

Paul also validates that portion of Enoch which Jude does, for he says it is Jesus Christ to whom every knee will bow and tongue confess. That is not information from the OT passage in Isaiah, but is information from Enoch, validated in Isaiah, that it is YHWH [the Son of Man who is God the Word] before whom every knee will bow and every tongue will confess.

In the passage in Isaiah, YHWH says that he has sworn it [before]... that to Him every knee will bow and every tongue will confess; and it is written before only in Enoch; and in Enoch, it is the Son of Man who is the One on the throne before whom all confess and bow and to whom "the sum of all judgment is committed" by the Father.

The Son of Man in heaven is sole judge, in Enoch, and is the Great Glory before whom all will bow and confess.

Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath.

Rom 14:10-12
But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

For it is written:
"As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God."

So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

Phl 2:10-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Now the passages in Enoch come first, to establish the foundation doctrine of the Son of Man as God the Word, who, in Enoch, is hidden in and is with the LORD of Glory in heaven, and who is the LORD of Glory and God the Word, seen as the mystery by Enoch.

Enoch 48:...The Book of Enoch
2 And at that hour that Son of Man was named In the presence of the Lord of Spirits,
And his name before the Head of Days.
3 Yea, before the sun and the signs were created,
Before the stars of the heaven were made,
His name was named before the Lord of Spirits.
4 He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall,
And he shall be the light of the Gentiles,
And the hope of those who are troubled of heart.
5 All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before him,
And will praise and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits.

6 And for this reason hath he been chosen and hidden before Him,
Before the creation of the world and for evermore.

7 And the wisdom of the Lord of Spirits hath revealed him to the holy and righteous;
For he hath preserved the lot of the righteous,
Because they have hated and despised this world of unrighteousness,
And have hated all its works and ways in the name of the Lord of Spirits:
For in his name they are saved,
And according to his good pleasure hath it been in regard to their life.

Enoch Chapter 63
1 In those days shall the mighty and the kings who possess the earth implore (Him) to grant them a little respite from His angels of punishment to whom they were delivered, that they might fall 2 down and worship before the Lord of Spirits, and confess their sins before Him. And they shall bless and glorify the Lord of Spirits, and say:
' Blessed is the Lord of Spirits and the Lord of kings,
And the Lord of the mighty and the Lord of the rich,
And the Lord of glory and the Lord of wisdom,

3 And splendid in every secret thing is Thy power from generation to generation,
And Thy glory for ever and ever:
Deep are all Thy secrets and innumerable,
And Thy righteousness is beyond reckoning.
4 We have now learnt that we should glorify
And bless the Lord of kings and Him who is king over all kings.'
5 And they shall say:
' Would that we had rest to glorify and give thanks
And confess our faith before His glory !

6 And now we long for a little rest but find it not:
We follow hard upon and obtain (it) not:
And light has vanished from before us,
And darkness is our dwelling-place for ever and ever:
7 For we have not believed before Him
Nor glorified the name of the Lord of Spirits, [nor glorified our Lord]

But our hope was in the sceptre of our kingdom,
And in our glory.
8 And in the day of our suffering and tribulation He saves us not,
And we find no respite for confession
That our Lord is true in all His works, and in His judgements and His justice,
And His judgements have no respect of persons.
And we pass away from before His face on account of our works,
And all our sins are reckoned up in righteousness.'
10 Now they shall say unto themselves: ' Our souls are full of unrighteous gain, but it does not prevent us from descending from the midst thereof into the burden of Sheol.'
11 And after that their faces shall be filled with darkness
And shame before that Son of Man,

And they shall be driven from his presence,
And the sword shall abide before his face in their midst.

12 Thus spake the Lord of Spirits: ' This is the ordinance and judgement with respect to the mighty and the kings and the exalted and those who possess the earth before the Lord of Spirits.'

Jud 1:14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
Jud 1:15 "to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

Interesting thread sis, I give Enoch a read too from time to time myself, it will be my forth pass (my next one). At first nothing, but then as I get familiar more seem to connect, but third time was a wow. In some places I just cant get past.

The one you posted above I was looking at when trying to find connections, heres a few that seem to speak on accord

Enoch 62:6 7And the kings and the mighty and all who possess the earth shall bless and glorify and extol him who rules over all, who was hidden.

For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden,

And the Most High preserved him in the presence of His might,
And revealed him to the elect.

Acts 22:14 The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

Ephes 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

1Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Like seeing that patern

For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden,

The one that dawned on me, was them asking about eternal life (in the NT) but is found in Enoch also. Though the hard part for me with Enoch is not having a proper search (as I do at blueletter) with th books I do have. Like I cant pull anything up as quickly and this has hindered me and has made looking at it a bit more time consuming. Its actually harder to match things up as I would like to try in proving it out. But still sitting with it:thumbsup:

I'll pretty much sit in the back reading because I cannot contribute, but good thread sis :thumbsup:

Thanks....that is a good connection. They just keep coming and coming when one reads Enoch, being familiar with the OT and NT.
Here is a link to Enoch- http://www.summascriptura.com/html/Enoch_1_RHC.htm

-all on one page [a work put up by a CF member] , and if you use firefox browser [easy to download] you can click the "Firefox" menu button top left of the browser and choose "find", which opens a search bar on the bottom of the page. type any word you want to search for, and it highlights it -and continues to the end of the page.That doesn't give you a concordance, but it helps do searches, esp when you have read Enoch and want to find something that has just "clicked" in the OT or NT, but you can't remember exactly where it is in Enoch.

Enoch wrote for the last generation who will be living in the Day of Tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed
[Enoch wrote of the rapture of the righteous before that "Day of Evil treasured up against sinners" comes, in Enoch 50]:

The Book of Enoch, Translated by Robert H. Charles, 1912
The Book of the Watchers (Chapters 1-36)

Dedicated to the Last Generation
1 The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation,a when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. 2And he took up his parable and said- Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me,b and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation,c but for a remote one which is for to come.

bRevelation 1:1-2
c1 Peter 1:12
3Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them:The Second Coming of Christ
The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, even on Mount Sinai,
And appear from His camp
And appear in the strength of His mightd from the heaven of heavens. dEphesians 6:10

And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.g eDaniel 4:13,17,23

And the high hills shall be made low,
And shall melt like wax before the flame.h hMicah 1:3-4
hPsalm 97:5

7And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder,i
And all that is upon the earth shall perish,
And there shall be a judgement upon all men. iIsaiah 24:1,3,19
8But with the righteous He will make peace,
And will protect the elect,
And mercy shall be upon them.
And they shall all belong to God,j
And they shall be prospered,
And they shall all be blessed.

Enoch's prophecy for His Scriptures for the last days:
Sinners Twist God's Word

Enoch 104:
10And now I know this mystery, that sinners will alter and pervert the words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practise great deceits, and write books concerning their words.
A Prophecy Concerning the Books of Enoch
11But when they write down truthfully all my words in their languages, and do not change or minish ought from my words but write them all down truthfully- all that I first testified concerning them. 12Then, I know another mystery, that books will be given to the righteous and the wise to become a cause of joy and uprightness and much wisdom. 13And to them shall the books be given, and they shall believe in them and rejoice over them, and then shall all the righteous who have learnt therefrom all the paths of uprightness be recompensed.

We do not believe by consensus of a "majority" nor by declaration of any group who plays politics of power over the people of God in telling them what to read, believe or to pray.
Politics change; power changes; people come and go; but God's Word remains unchangeable from the first prophet's writing of Christ in heaven "hidden in God who was God and who was to come", and on through Moses, and down over the centuries, to the book of "the Revelation of Jesus Christ given to John".

We do believe as God revealed to us.

He revealed that 1st Enoch isn't Holy Scripture
We also know for a fact that it isn't Christian at all.

Therefore, Christians cannot accept it.

That's God's truth; I stick with it. I let people who want to reject the religion that God hallowed to reject it all they want; they are in a world of a surprise.

Enoch chapter 92
The book written by Enoch- Enoch indeed wrote this complete doctrine of wisdom, which is praised of all men and a judge of all the earth for all my children who shall dwell on the earth. And for the future generations who shall observe uprightness and peace.
2Let not your spirit be troubled on account of the times;
For the Holy and Great One has appointed days for all things.

Jesus, the Righteous One, Victorious Over Death
3And the Righteous One shall arise from sleep,
Shall arise and walk in the paths of righteousness,
And all his path and conversation shall be in eternal goodness and grace.
4He will be gracious to the righteous and give him eternal uprightness,
And He will give him power so that he shall be endowed with goodness and righteousness,

And he shall walk in eternal light.
5And sin shall perish in darkness for ever,
And shall no more be seen from that day for evermore.
93 And after that Enoch both gave and began to recount from the books. 2And Enoch said:
"Concerning the children of righteousness and concerning the elect of the world,
And concerning the plant of uprightness, I will speak these things,
Yea, I Enoch will declare them unto you, my sons:
"According to that which appeared to me in the heavenly vision,
And which I have known through the word of the holy angels,
And have learnt from the heavenly tablets."
```````````````
In Enoch's dream visions given in totemic imagery of the history of the world through its ages, Enoch said what Jesus said "The Wisdom of God" said:
Luk 11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and [some] of them they shall slay and persecute:
Not canonical Scripture. Jewish mysticism.
Not meaningful to Christians.
The Book of Enoch is an extra biblical, non-canonical writing not to be taken as scripture.
:thumbsup:
Some genealogies are different in Enoch than in Genesis.
The book of Enoch is usually one or two that are sold as a unit; there are actually four books in total. They are all just part of the pseudepigrapha, a collection of non canonical writings. They are not scripture.
It is a Jewish apocalypse that they themselves reject and which no Christian group gave any serious credence to.
Best ignored or read only by those whose faith is steady enough not to be shaken by its unorthodoxy.
According to the genealogy of Genesis (taken as read) 5:3-18, Enoch was born in the year 622.
At the age of 65 Enoch begot Methuselah (Genesis 5:21).
Enoch walked with God for 300 years, and then was taken from the earth at the age of 365 years old (Genesis 5:23-24).
Adding these up, this brings the time of Enoch's departure to the year of 987.
All this is 69 years before Noah is born (Genesis 5:25-29). Yet, the writer of this "Book of Enoch" historically writes of the events of Genesis 6 and the account of Noah.
