The only "person" placed on a pedestal - or should be placed above - is GOD. No man or woman should be above the other, but God should be above both. If God is above, and both are looking up to Him for guidance and authority, the marriage will be successful and, yes, HAPPY. One cannot go wrong, looking to Jesus for a role model, and both husband and wife should do this.

I completely disagree with the quotation. God is above both of us. We put Him first, and we listen to His leading. We serve each other and respect each other. I don't submit to him, and he doesn't submit to me- we both submit to the Lord.

You should try to be less important than him. Do not expect to be equal.

Why should she try to be less important than him? Why shouldn't she expect to be equal?

My wife walks along side of me and sometimes in front of me when I put her needs ahead of my own, just as she sometimes puts my needs in front of her and I walk in front of her.

We are both equally important to the other and my wife should never expect anything less.

I don't think you are equal to your wife. She shouldn't expect those things.

That is your thought and the good thing is that your thought doesn't need to be my own.

What matters is what the couple who is in the marriage thinks, not those on the outside of said marriage.

Btw, my wife can indeed expect those things because it's something that we have recently discussed with the birth of our baby girl to reinforce our views on our marriage and how we view each other.

I agree. I'm just saying be careful of trying to be equal with your wife or expecting to be equal. I don't think allowing her to expect to be equal could lead to any harm, but allowing yourself to expect to be equal might not be a good thing.

I understand and I'm not perfect either. It's hard to have no pride at all.
