I honestly don't know the answer to either. :sorry: There have been excavations of Neanderthal graves that indicate they probably had some kind of belief about the afterlife but I don't think it's possible to give a definite yes or no to the soul idea.

Though since Europeans do share some DNA with Neanderthals it would be interesting if they were the partial product of a soulless creature. Though if you look at the history of European colonialism you might believe there was something wrong with the souls of people who would commit the acts they did, but I digress ...

I believe that the so-called Neanderthals weren't too different than us. In fact, most scientists say you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you saw one next to you. According to some Christian sites I've read, it's entirely plausible that Neanderthals were people who lived in caves and had a bone deficiency.

Like one of the so-called skeletons found was later found out to be a boy with rickets, but scientist's imaginations ran away from them...they gave it a scientific name, had this whole image drawn up just from a few bones.

This part of "science" is very incomplete if you ask me...just some random bones and theories from people desperate to prove macro evolution. There are alternate explanations.

Macro evolution is faith based on circumstantial evidence

Unless you believe monkeys descended from you, you probably meant that you are literally an ape's nephew. Though since humans are classified as apes you could potentially be another ape's uncle or nephew depending on your family situation.

They didn't exist. Their bones are a lie put there by the devil to distract us away from God!

But seriously I don't think anyone knows for sure, since it's not mentioned in scripture. Personally I would say no, and that they were more akin to animals (even though we are animals) that don't have a conscience. I have no idea, but I'm open to the possibility that God used evolution to get us where he wanted us, with a conscience and a soul to have a relationship with him.

I tend to accept the theory that Neanderthals were more of a parallel development than a direct ancestor of homo sapiens. In which case - who knows? I'm not a YEC literalist but I also think most anthropological evolutionary theory is far too speculative. One doesn't need to believe in a literal Adam and Eve to believe that mankind was created with an eternal soul and reason.

This is one of the things I look forward to knowing after the resurrection, but which I don't think is actually important to know now, theologically speaking. As a matter of curiosity it's fine to think about, of course.

Did they, and other species of genus Homo have souls? If so, were they corrupted by sin?

If not, did Homo Sapiens develop a soul?

I don't know. Neanderthals had a brain 20-25% larger than Homo Sapiens Sapiens, so maybe.

Great thread idea!!

I have no idea. But it's an interesting topic to contemplate. Everyone's answers are interesting so far.

If they lived before Adam they would not have been affected by the sin of Adam, so the should still be walking around today. That is if they had a soul.

Its an interesting topic but I....I'm to lazy to think about lol :D

BTW, if the theory of evolution is true (which I think it is)....then.......it would get real messi !
And yeah, if he's Messi, he wouldn't fit in at Real coz he's a Barcelona player and a huge "enemy" of Real Madrid.
