While I was at work on Sunday I was bitten/stung by something under my chin and we're required to call the medics when that happens so that it can be documented. So the medic comes to see me and I mentioned that I am a EMT and asked if he had remembered talking to me when I went in for my drug test.

He said that he vaguely remembers and asked if I would be interested in transferring to his department as an EMT. I let him know that my certification expires in December and he said that they can help me with that. I also let him know that my CPR card isn't current and he let me know that they can work with me on that as well.

They are desperate for EMTs right now and since I am one and in the park "family" that transferring for me would be easy.

This would be a great opportunity for me. It gets me back into the field that I love and would allow me to work around my hand issue. I won't be out on an ambulance each shift lifting every time there is a call. This would be perfect.

My only concern is the hours. I know he said that they're hurting currently, but I also know he said that the EMTs don't work many hours. I would need the same amount of hours or a large increase in pay to cover the hours that I would lose.

With that said, I am conflicted. I want to be able to work as an EMT again and this would allow me to do so, but I also don't want to lose hours.

I talk with the guy tomorrow.

Please pray for me that this will work out.

Could you work with your current job and have a set schedule to then be able to schedule your EMT position? My husband had to do this when he was working two jobs and already has it worked out for when he has to do student teaching when the time comes (there's no way we can afford to live on my salary alone).

Good luck to you!! :)

How'd the meeting go, Boidae?

It was just a information collecting meeting. He was supposed to talk with HR today to find out how many positions he can hire for. Said he'll get back to me in a day or two.

My pay will increase and my hours should remain the same through the summer since it's our busiest season. He also said that I just started so I need to remain seasonal with seasonal hours, but a part-time spot could open and I could be put into it.

It wouldn't work that way in this instance. The EMT position is still with the same company. I would have to transfer completely out of my current position.

Hmmmm.....he did say he would get back to you within a day or two. Maybe you should contact him and see what HR had to say.....you think? I don't think it would be intrusive to do that.....in fact, it may show initiative :)

I was planning on doing that actually.

Waiting till I go back in and will go a little extra early so that I can talk to him, well see if he's there and then talk to him.
