It's always dangerous to try to persuade people with lies. They don't trust you so fast next time you tell them something, for one thing.

My father was a Pedodontist (Childrens Dentist). I assisted him during and a bit after college. When a kid came in and the last thing mommie told him was "Don't worry, it won't hurt" we knew we were in for a hard time. Not the kids fault but it meant we had to undo a lot of damage.

If we were very very lucky the kid was not scared half to death and actually would hear it when dad told him the injection would pinch and that that should be it. Most of the time kids in thsi situation were so scared they really did not hear a word we said.

They do? I thought unless in the case of death of the mother, 3rd trimester abortions are illegal.

As for this law, it's wrong because the state is ordering doctors to lie to their patients and if the doctor won't read this piece of paper outlining what the legislator wants them to say, they can lose their license.

Whether third trimester abortions are legal or not depends entirely on the laws where you live. In Canada, there is no law concerning abortion at any stage. It is considered entirely between a woman and her doctor. Third trimester abortions are very rare, and here at least are only performed when there is a good medical reason to do so. The number of women who want an elective abortion after going through seven or eight months of pregnancy is so small as to be invisible, as there's no logic to doing it. At that point a woman has already gone through most of the trials of pregnancy, including the many changes in her body, and is almost always unable to hide it (though that can happen) if that's her reason for wanting an abortion. So there's no incentive to electively abort, and it's done when there's little or no other choice.

Incidentally, with no law preventing women having abortions, Canada's abortion rate is substantially lower than the American rate. OTOH, pregnant women here have easy access to pre and postnatal care, and we are pretty vigorous about educating our kids concerning reproductive health and birth control, all of which measures are influential on reducing abortion rates

Informed consent is standard, but the patient gives informed consent, not "is given" (which doesn't make sense).

The key here is what information is necessary for the patient to know in order to give consent. Indiana seems to want to foist misinformation on to the patient - more big government intrusion into doctor-patient care.

Evidently Indiana is making a law that says mothers who want abortions have to be given informed consent that includes letting them know the baby may feel pain when the doctor goes in to kill it. Is this a good idea or is it taking informed consent a bit too far?
whats this nonsense "MAY FEEL PAIN" whether your 500 lbs or 1/2 a lb, pain is pain, imagine a giant adult size suction tube coming through your bedroom window in the middle of the night and sucking your head off your torso, then ripping your limbs and guts into small pieces untill they finally make through the tube opening. NAW! that wouldn't be painful

Trust me the government is the last group of people that want to inform you of anything. the less you know the happier they are

You're talking purely about late stage abortions in the 3rd trimester. The above hyperbole does not apply to 99% of abortions.

I believe a fetus can feel pain, so yeah if it's going to scare the women enough to maybe give birth and give the child up for adoption if she feels she can't raise it, instead of killing an innocent life, then please tell them.
Who cares if it's the truth, as long as she does what you want.

That way the child can grow up in an overburdened and understaffed foster system while cuts are constantly made to funding for any sort of program that might just help them. If they're lucky they won't be systematically abused by the foster homes they're bounced between for years on end, and if they're really really lucky (or white and healthy) they'll actually be adopted. Maybe.
