We must be holy because God calls us to be holy and perfect, just like Him (Leviticus 19:1-2; Matthew 5: 48). The holiness of God is revealed in Jesus who sacrificed His life in order to compensate for the sins we committed against Him. In other words, He the victim compensated for the offenses we committed against Him. We must therefore, love our enemies; pray for our persecutors; offer the other cheek if slapped on one; walk two miles if forced to walk one; not ask back what others have borrowed from us (Matthew 5:38-47); not take revenge; and love others as we love our self (Lev. 19:18). The world may think we are foolish to follow such teachings; however we must remember that the wisdom of the world is folly to God. Furthermore, we may think that it is impossible to follow such teachings; however we must remember that because Gods spirit dwells in us (1 Cor. 3:16) with His help we can do it. All we need to do is to sincerely desire His holiness.

The question isn't why should we be, but why shouldn't we be? We're given all sorts of tools to become holy and be holy in our decisions and relationships. We have no excuse.

Dear surrendersacrifice. To be holy is to be near-perfect, and Jesus told us to be perfect as God is perfect. But we live in an imperfect world, and we are still sinners. The best way to become holy is to start by loving our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus told a Lawyer in Matthew, chapter 22, verses 35-40: " The first and great Commandment is to love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is: love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Jesus lived amongst us for thirty odd years, and Jesus knew us very well. He knew that to become perfect in holyness we have to learn to love first. God with all our beings, and our neighbour, ( all others, friends or not friends) as we love ourselves. It is not easy, but it can be done. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love. Jesus also told us " to ask and ye will receive," we will be given love to share with each other, if we ask sincerely. God will see our efforts, and will give us His blessings. We might stumble and fail often, but Jesus taught us to pray: " Father forgive us our sins, as we will forgive those who sin against us." We will find that our love grows and grows, and we are well on the way to become holy as well. We have been given time to get better and better, and with God on our side, what can stop us?
