We despise evil yet are inclined to evil. We hate suffering, wickedness, and demons because we are good, made by the good God, yet are influenced to be wicked, to make others suffer, to give ourselves to demons because we are weak, rebellious against God. It has to do with Original Sin and its consequences, which we bear responsibility for by our sins since as children of Adam we share in the sin of our father, who represented us. Yet Christ by His Death has won for us divine gifts even greater than Original Justice, which we share in by our charity since as children of God we share in the righteousness of our Bridegroom, of whose Body we are members as members of His Bride the Catholic Church.

This little lamb must have slipped through the net.

I believe that humans naturally hate whatever they learn or desire to classify as being evil; having understood the definition of the word. In other words....no, I do not believe that humans naturally hate evil, since it is subjective.

But what about that old saying "hate the sin but not the sinner"?

Cain,

I deeply apologize for addressing your flock. But if you noticed, I only spoke with one lamb, and none of the others, and only because she is inquisitive and you weren't there to reply to her. While she was on line, it seemed like a good thing to satisfy her request.

I turn it back to you, rightfully so.

Please do not leave, let's take shifts since we are at different daylight hours? ;)

I'm not quite sure. :D

Well, maybe the crowd of "people" in the end did crucify him, but they were not always against him. No, I believe it was the Jewish leaders who were denounced by Jesus when he uttered his many "woes" against them, as I suggested in my last post. Do you agree?

One of the most painful scriptures to read is Mt. 27:15, speaking of Pilate, "For he knew that they [the jewish leaders] had delivered him up out of envy."

Remember this woe of Jesus? "They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.'" Jesus was a threat to them and they envied him for his acclaim among the people.

I see, I think I get it now. I do agree that it was the leaders He was refering to, since of course the Jews at that time were only following their leaders and were decieved by them.

I head a tribal folklore that explains the human struggle with evil rather well.

A boy asks his father,
"do you have to struggle with anything in yourself ?

His father answers, " I have within me two wolves. One is good, compassionate and just. The other is full of lust, jealousy and evil."

The son then asks, "which wolf is the stronger?"

The father answers, " the one that I feed."

And the worst part is that I think we have all fed that evil wolf more often than the other one...

It is instinctive to despise evil, but different cultures and even different religious denominations determine what "evil" is differently.

There are certain concepts that are universally recognized as "evil" but the list is shorter than most people think.

Slavery, for example, is not universally recognized as wrong, St. Paul even told slaves to obey their masters in the Bible.

Most people have developed their concept of "evil" from their upbringings and their environments.
