My mom read "The DaVinci Code" and decided Brown was pretentious. Apparently, the main characters are some of the smartest people in the world and take days to figure out these puzzles that she was able to solve inline as she read. I figured I didn't have time to read "Sherlock Holmes for dummies" so I didn't bother. I _do_ kind of regret it, though, since they made such a big splash, culturally, and it would have been nice to know what people were talking about. But it's all over now, as far as I can tell, so I'm not going to bother.

They are popular because people like ancient mysteries and secret societies. It's just too bad that his writing style and characterization are so... well average would be a nice way to put it. There are plenty of books out there of that style that are well-written too. The Eight by Katherine Neville is one that jumps to mind.

The truth about Jesus is far more interesting than the 'Da Vinci Code' for example. I don't think christians should buy these types of books as it only encourages people to write more of them . Same goes for Pullman & Dawkins.

Has anyone here read 'Who made God?' by Edgar Andrews?
