Our Prayers Should Be

Humble

Luke 18:13,14: “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his
eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I
tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one
that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

Psalm 10:17: “LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their
heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

Psalm 51:17: “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart,
O God, thou wilt not despise.”

There are many verses that speak about humility, but these three alone surely say that God expects us to approach His Throne with a humble attitude.

Simple

Matthew 6:7: “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they
think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.”

We do not have to pray in Elizabethan English or in any formal manner. We do not need
to refer to God as THOU! All we need do is speak to God as our Holy Father, in a
straightforward, simple, and direct manner. We need to simply be who we are, without
pretense, when we come before God.

Sincere

Psalm 145:18: “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon
him in truth.”

It is difficult to believe, but some still come before God with prayers from the lips
but not from the heart!

Specific and Definite

Psalm 27:4: “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may
dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD,
and to enquire in his temple.”

Acts 12:5: “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of
the church unto God for him.”

Persistent

Acts 12:5: “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of
the church unto God for him.”

Col. 1:9: “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for
you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding;”

Col. 4:2: “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;”

Acts 6:4: “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the
word.”

I Thessalonians 5:17: “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the
ministry of the word.”

There are so very many verses and Scriptures that speak of unceasing, persistent,
unfailing prayer, I could not begin to list them here or to expound on them. But it is
evident that God would have us to live our lives in a prayerful attitude and to through a
situation until we know we have a definite answer. Now there are those who say that to
petition God more than once is an indication of a lack of faith. Nevertheless, to lift
another before God continually, according to His written Word is obedience.

In Faith

Hebrews 11:6: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to
God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

This verse clearly says that we must believe that God is Who He says He is and that He
will hear us when we pray and that He will answer.

Bold

I John 5:13-15: “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

In accord with Scripture and His Divine Will

I John 5:14: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

Simple enough!

Another great post about praying Gerry! Thanks!

I have to admit there's nothing like holding someone else up in prayer and then having God answer those prayers.

Amen! It is a thrill that ranks up there pretty close to leading a lost one to Jesus. Both are such a blessing!
