But since if you scroll down past the first post, you'll hit spoilers, I've put the link to the game directly here.

It's an interesting concept. But I won't say more in the first post 'cause of spoilers.

Which is a good thing to do. But if I told you, it would pretty much ruin the experiment. You can read the first post in the link, but seriously, do not scroll down.

""Execution" is a short experimental game. It takes only a few minutes to play. Controls are self-explanatory, runs at full screen only."

The 15-page Penny Arcade thread for it is here if you need more vetting. http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=58973 (obviously, don't click the spoiler button or scroll down too far)

I suspect a Milgram experiment redux.

Yes, you'd be right to suspect that. I didn't download it, I just read some of the comments in the forum link, and guessed beforehand anyhow. The trouble with this game, is it is just that, a game. Shooting someone in a computer game has little consequences. So the experiment is a bit pointless, in my opinion. Now a real life version of the game, with the gun loaded with blanks might be a bit more interesting. If someone was to set me up like that though, I'd likely realise it was some sort of variation of the Milgram experiment anyway, but I'd still like to think I wouldn't pull the trigger, or electrocute the victim or whatever, even if I didn't realise it was an experiment.

I wasn't too impressed by the experiment. I "won," but the win condition was spelled out pretty obviously by the opening screen.

I think the more interesting idea here is whether someone would run an unknown executable, a suspicious packaging choice since most web games are based on Flash. I *did* run it, without much thought, so I lose at Internet Security.

Certainly, one of the problems with this game is if you "win" you get absolutely nothing out of it. The experiment only works if you lost.

I'm guessing no one here has actually lost yet, which kinda stifles the discussion.

There's actually a bit more than just the Milgram experiment here as well as there's a sub-discussion about modern gamer mentality. The "right thing" is not necessarily that black-and-white (though the creator certainly agrees with you what the right thing was)

I lost. :sorry:

But I swear I waited for ages and shot everything in sight apart from the guy before I did. Is there any way of re-downloading the file to try again? If not could someone please PM me to explain how to win? I'm going to lose sleep over this if not...:p
