ARGH NO! My computer ate my post again.
I just got home from the baptism, the girls were very sweet and looked like angels, and looked far better in white than I could ever hope to. They are half greek half aboriginal australian (native australian, skin colour is similar to african american), and the white looked stunning on them. They are now named Irini and Evdoxia. The dresses fit perfectly and the girls loved them, though I made Irini (who is an absolute tomboy) a tunic top to match her caftan so she still gets something for dressing up out of it, and she can wear her caftan to bed as she does not wear dresses, ever. She loved it, it's made out of a geometric lacy pattern fabric over a plain white lining, so I'm pleased.
Yes, God-willing I'll be baptised Holy Saturday. I have a pair of white linen pants, loose drawstring ones, so I'm thinking I might make a long tunic top and wear that rather than a 'gown'. Less likely to go see through, if I line it, and I'll wear a bathing suit underneath anyway.
In the baptism tonight they did the oil on faces, hands, feet, and the necklines on the gowns were open enough to mark just inside the collar, so I assume that's what they'll do with us too. I'll just make the neckline on mine open to do that!
You will see a thousand photos, probably
LOTS of photos will be taken, I'll show you guys the good ones!
I am glad that I have motivated you, sewing is good.
Oh, and half the people tonight thought I was Greek - and a lot of people think "Kyri" is a cute short form of Kyriaki, and as I go by "Kyrie" pronounced that way usually that makes life somewhat easier. I'll have to change my name on here, too, if I can save the blessings.
Service was mostly in english which was wonderful as 99% of the people there would not have understood a word of the greek, much less the kids. The little one kept saying YES along with her godmother during the exorcisms which was adorable.
OH! And I got to hold one of the candles
That was fun.
