I know everyone has dealt with monsters under the bed or something like that before... but this is the first time I've had to deal with it and I don't know what to do.
My son is almost 4 and has been having nightmares and comes in our bedroom every night. For awhile, he said there was a big scary bunny that came in his room at night and took his blankets away. Then a few times he told us that there was a big man that would come in his room while he was sleeping. The latest thing- he tells us that his closet has a hole in the door and the monsters come in and try to scare him and won't let him sleep. I thought I was just dealing with nighttime stuff, until yesterday and today. He won't even play in his bedroom now because the monsters are in there and scaring him. He says they won't let him play with his toys and tell him to leave. Someone told me this might be manipulation, but I don't know what he's trying to manipulate. Also, he was REALLY crying about it. He wanted his teddy bear and cried so hard because he was scared to go in his bedroom. I don't know what to do anymore. I tried to ignore it, but he got mad at me because I didn't believe him. He actually pointed to his closet today and said, "Don't you see it mom? It's right there! The hole is right there!" And there wasn't anything!!! HELP!:help:

a couple of suggestions... pray with him each night in his room asking God to have angels watching over him to help keep all harm from him.

the other would be to ask your minister to come and bless the room... see if that helps...

Take some olive oil or something and you and your son can annoint the corners of each of the doors and windows, including the closet door. Then plead the blood of Jesus over the room and forbid demonic presence in that room in the name of Jesus.

This will do several things. If your child is showing symptoms of an overactive imagination it should give him some ownership over the act of forbidding the monsters (you can use the word monsters too) from being in his room and it will also, in fact, forbid demonic presence from that room. A third thing is that you are teaching your child that he has authority in the name of Jesus. You are reinforcing the concept that Jesus is all-powerfull too.

Now, look up the whole idea of annointing the door posts and such in the Bible. It's there. (hint: think about the spirit of death in Egypt and Moses.)

My nephew had this problem. We started praying each night before bed and I got him an Angel, to protect him at night. Then for really bad monsters, we got Monster Be Gone spray!

Actually it's some lemon juice and water in a spray bottle with a label I printed off the computer so it would look like it came from a store.

The spray worked great, we only used it 3 nights.

Have you tried sleeping on the floor next to his bed for a nigt or two? Maybe once he learns to relax at night in his room, it won't seem so scary.

I work with kids your son's age. One thing that works in most hopeless situations is to ask him what he thinks should be done to fix it. Don't ask him when he is upset, but some calm moment. Just say, "I want to help you make your room safe and fun for you...do you have any ideas of how I can help you?" If he can help fix it, it might stick better.

Praying is also a great way to help. You could get him a preschool Bible (The Beginners Bible and Daily Blessings Devotional Bible are both good) and read to him from it at bedtime. If he has a CD or tape player in his room, sometimes a book on tape or a soothing CD of hymns helps.

A good picture book is Go Away Big Green Monster. It is a cute book where they build a cartoonish monster feature by feature and page by page, then, because they are not scared, they make him disappear feature by feature. At the end, big green monster is gone and won't come back "until I say so".

What did we do? Let's see.....
1) Monster spray (like Linnis suggested)
2) I hung a guardian angel over her bed
3) I got the Veggie Tales book & music CD "God Is Bigger"......that one REALLY helped
4) After she was asleep I would go in and pray over her, and I would command any evil presence to leave in the name of Jesus
5) Daddy told her he gathered all the monsters up, put them into a spaceship, and sent them into outer space! :p

She was having trouble with monsters and bad dreams, we used all of the above ideas over a span of time.

I liked E-beth's idea about asking HIM what his "fix" would be for the situation.....

Good luck! :)

Along with the VeggieTales book, there's a video (Where's God When I'm S-s-s-scared?) that has a song (about God being bigger than the boogeyman).

I also pray with my children that "all the bad things will go away, so we can have good dreams". In my mind, this is an attack against spiritual warfare, and to them it's a request for God to keep them safe.

I think that this excellent advice should not be overlooked:

Take some olive oil or something and you and your son can annoint the corners of each of the doors and windows, including the closet door. Then plead the blood of Jesus over the room and forbid demonic presence in that room in the name of Jesus.

This will do several things. If your child is showing symptoms of an overactive imagination it should give him some ownership over the act of forbidding the monsters (you can use the word monsters too) from being in his room and it will also, in fact, forbid demonic presence from that room. Most of the monsters in the closet can be handily dispatched with lemon juice and the right attitude, but as Christians we know that there is an evil spirit world out there and Satan considers a 4 year old fair game.
Annointing his room, indeed your house, with oil or holy water and filling it with the praise of God and images that remind all in the home of God's presence, can have a major impact. You may want to invite some good frineds over for a house blessing - people praying their way through every room in your home and singing God's praises.

thank you all for your suggestions!
we had some friends over to sleep last night and he was fine when his friend was over.
we have all the veggietales stuff mentioned above. it seems to work for a little while and then he goes back to saying the monsters are there.
we've prayed over the room and we pray every night. i do go in and pray over him after he's asleep. and he has a cd of children's hymns.
there are other suggestions on here that i haven't tried, and i will have to. i guess i honestly didn't think that spiritual warfare would start this early.
thanks again :)

:sigh: It sure does! Our daughter was going through a time of having horrible HORRIBLE nightmares.....VERY scary, from what she described to me. That's when I upped the praying, I prayed over her right before I went to sleep, I made the sign of the cross over her in bed, by her window, and by her bedroom door commanding all evil to leave her room and our house in Jesus' name.

The nights I did that, she slept soundly. The nights I skipped, she had nightmares.

Go figure......

Actually, our son started at about 3 months . . . he'd just wake up screaming, and wouldn't stop until we'd prayed over him and sung Scripture songs. It can hit at any age. My test was if it went away after prayer (and we'd tried everything else), it had to be spiritual warfare.

Not sure if this helps but it worked wonders with my son, pay attention to what he is watching. When my son started watching Scooby Doo around the age of four, he was suddenly worried about monsters. Eventually I wised up and stopped turning on scooby doo. Within a week the 'monsters' in our house disappeared. Same thing with our daughter. We don't allow anything with monsters ont he television. In fact, she was watching an older science fiction type show with her big brother a few weeks ago and sure enough, that night she was sobbing about being scared and wanting the light on. The show was so not scary but did have monsters.

I think television is probably a big reason behind 'monsters'.

Fear, or I should say a spirit of fear is something I've dealt with in my home at night on more than one occassion. I pray. I say a simple bedtime prayer with my son, then when he's asleep I pray in tongues and/or in faith about my house being protected from demonic presenses and I've even gone as far as annointing the doors and window seals with oil and praying "blessings" over the rooms & our house. It does seem to help. I realize not everyone even thinks along those lines, and that is ok, but that is what I do. I truly believe that it isn't only mental, but spiritual, and in your son's case it may very well be. I have also introduced the veggie tales book & movie "where's god when I'm scared" which talks about how creepy things can get at night and talks about how big God is. That is what i usually explain to my son... how God is so big, and I've heard him say before that monsters can't get him because Jesus will beat them up (hey, whatver works :) ) You may also consider what he watches on t.v. I don't let my son watch a lot of those monster cartoons though I let him watch batman/spiderman and Danny phantom, and those can have scary images. He likes scooby doo, but I haven't let him watch that for a while because the monsters on there can be pretty scary. Hope this helps. God Bless!

Oh yeah, it even starts in the womb. The enemy started attacking me with lies and doubts about my daughter before she was even born and I recently came to this revelation one night when praying over her in the spirit.... he, the enemy, wants our children. He wants to destroy our children and as young as possible. I once read a scripture that basically stated God doesn't like divorce because he wants us to have holy seed, and that is one way to destroy a child's life. God cares about "our seed" we are made to have children, that is very important to him, and something that is very important to God is going to be equally important to the devil because he is going to want to destroy it. I pray over my kids on the time, esp. over their psychee, and for God to help me be a good parent. One time I experianced an intense spiritual warfare and it came to me the reason why was because I was waging warfare for my children, and the enemey didn't like it. It's been said we are attacked prior to, or after a victory. Children can have horrible bondages at young ages, even as young as 3 & 4.

Not making light of the situation by any means(same problem with DS) but it reminds me of a scene in one of my favorite movies- Major Payne. If you haven't seen the movie you should rent it b/c it's hilarious. Anywayz- "Major Payne" is a ex-Marine drill instructor who gets a job as a JROTC instructor. Well, one of the kids named tiger(who's about 6-7 I'd guess) comes running into Major's office one night saying that the boogie-man is in his closet. Well, Major escorts tiger up to his room, and asks "Is he in there?" and points to the closet. Tiger scaredly says yes. Major pulls his .45 sidearm, points it at the closet, and sends about 5 rounds into the closet. Major reholsters his weapon and says "If he's still in there, he ain't happy." :) Sorry, couldn't resist. We just tell DS that the Lord will protect him and that usually does the trick. There have been instances when that didn't work for some reason, so Daddy had to "arrest" the creatures in the closet. :)
