Yes, and I am preparing to do this again very soon. I am near both Dallas and New Orleans. Here is what I do. I stand on the busy corner or bus stop and smile as I hand tract to as many as possible. I say: "Hi, may I give you something good to read? Most simply say sure, some say no, some brush you aside, some heckle, lol. But sooner or later you look around and someone is tugging on your sleve with a question. That is when I gently leaad them aside and we are able to talk. Remember the work is alraedy done. The Holy Spirit has already prepared this heart. This is when the rewards come. Try it. You will LOVE it. It is somewhat frustrating and aggravating because of some reactions and comments, but you keep smiling and praying and the JOY comes. I promise.

I am a loner by nature so I do most work alone. However I do believe it is important to have at least one other with you when doing this type of Evangelism, for many reasons.

But if you think back to the Gospels Jesus sent them forth in Pairs, and with plenty of good reason. I do believe in working in multiples of two's when possible. One seldom has all the answers needed but when there is two the answers seem to flow easier.

I believe when one is talking the other should be praying. If two are working with one individual and there are two more passing the tracts you can see how the volume increases and the number of salvation experiences go up.

I like the idea of pairs because Jesus said: " For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Somehow it seems to increase our strength and confidence and and ability and power, not to even mention our inner Peace.

I have a different kind of street evangelsim. I grew up on the streets in the ghetto, I know from expierence that thats where the help is needed. I go back there alot, talk to the guys, and they respect and I think I get through to them. Unlike alot of approaches where dudes think they can bust in there with the ol fire and brimstone idea, which doesnt work. Ya gota get under the skin and get to teh point where you respect them and they respect you, then you can get em knowin the truth and actually listenin to yer words, otherwise your just gonna get blown off.

I was in a street evangelism team for a year, we did mostly drama, dance and street preaching, that way if people wanted to stay and talk they could and if they didn't they could move on. I don't like the corner people method, I tried it and it was a disaster, well for me anyway. We saw some awesome things. Like this guy who came and said that he had been searching for God and God had told him to go to this particular square at a certain time and he would find Him and when he did that he came across our team and got saved on the spot! Of course there is the other side with a guy throwing punchs at a team member and someone getting spat on.

you're so right, Warrior4Jah. Sometimes it's so hard to get to others because of different backgrounds, and God needs those with the same background as them to spread the gospel... specifically for them.

that's great Kiwi! God is certainly working alongside!

There's no doubt that it is best and easiest to reach people with whom you have a relationship, but there are oodles of people who don't know any Christians, or at least any Christians who want to share Christ.

So, become a "friend to sinners" :)

In my experience, a lot of people are put off my someone just approaching them on the street... whether they're handing out tracts or ads for a 2 for one deal at Pizza Hut ;-) Seeking to be a friend to people first is often the most powerful witness. People rarely care how much you know until they know how much you care. More often than not, if they're someone's "project", they'll know.

Just food for thought :)

We ALL do. I hated it in high school when some of my friends made it their project to make me over in their image. It was insulting; they were saying that I wasn't good enough the way I was, I had to be more like them. Evangelism maybe shouldn't be that way.

It definitely shouldn't, IMO.... I recall one of my friends sharing something that happened to a prof of his (He was at Liberty U at the time); said Prof was witnessing to a kid on the street and the kid came out and said "you don't love me, you just love my soul". If we're talking to people out of a sense of duty or making them our "project", they'll know. The Good News of Jesus, IMO, looks best when framed by the Heart of Jesus.

Just this Sunday a group of 6 of us, mostly young guys (13 - 17) went to a Childrens park and did a small open-air meeting. As you may have gathered from my name, I'm with the Salvation Army and we decided to do what many salvos did 100 years ago and get out into the community. We attracted about 20 children (with one of our dressed up characters) and we taught them a little about God creating the World. Then we handed out fliers and KidZone magazines (Salvation Army Kids publication).

It was soooo exciting, that I want to do it every week. I've found people don't really come to you anymore, you have to go to them.

Everyone should pray that more people can go out into the community and spread the good news about Jesus Christ.
