I haven't done any serious lifting for ages now but when I was 17 and training for rowing I could lift 170kg single leg press each leg, sixty-something kg bench press, and seventy-something in bench pull, six reps in each case. I also could do somewhere between 100 and 120 kg for squats, getting my [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] on the ground. I was also quite good at chin-ups. I liked doing back and leg exercises.

I could probably lift less than half that now.

What about you?

I was really into weight lifting when I was in high school. At my best I could do 250lbs squat and a 150lbs bench (tell it fell on my face anyway!). I really miss being in that kind of shape! I was the only girl on my power lifting board. I'm trying to get back into shape... slowly but I will get there again!

i didnt get into lifting till halfway through my jr year. i lifted for a few months, nothing serious...then in my sr year i got somewhat serious, and then the last half of my sr year i got really serious. after a yr and a half of total training, about 5-6 months of serious training, i was benchpressing 260, clean/pressing 180, and military pressing 200. i dont know why i could do so much more on military, but i couldnt clean and jerk or clean/press....i was cleaning 210 tho. if i had seriously worked out the whole time i woulda easily been @ 300 on bench, 215 on military and probly 225-235 on clean.

This Summer I could bench press 145 pounds with relative ease. Of course, this Summer I was also at the gym every other day. And then Fall semester came, along with a certain class called "Waves, Optics, and Relativity." Then I found the available free time in my day slowly decreasing. My visits to the gym slowly dropped from every other day to once a week (at best).

The sad part of this story is that I didn't just stop lifting; rather I gradually reduced my workouts. As such, I saw my ability to bench press slowly dwindle from 145 to 140, then 135. I don't want to know how low I've gotten since my last visit one and a half weeks ago.

arunma, you shouldnt get weaker by only lifting once a week or so. you should be gettin stronger if you do the right lifts. most people have the idea that you have to go into the gym at least 3-5 times a week to get stronger....not true. if you know how to lift and what to do, you can easily surpass an everyday lifter. the trikc is workout intensity and muscular recovery. i'd re-evaluate your diet and workouts

lol @ "formal training." its not uncommon for professional athletes to squat 600+ pounds....one of the guys i graduated with squated 615 twice...he went down, coach said it wasnt parallel, so he got under the bar again, went down to parallel, held it for a sec, looked at the coach and asked him if it was ok, and then went back up and racked the weights....we also had a sophomore that was getting close to breaking the school clean record of 345. he got 340, then tried 345...he got under it, flipped his wrist, snapped it up, but couldnt squat it up...he got so low i heard he was past 90 degrees and his butt was almost on the ground...he was basically front squattin 345 from beyond parallel....which is kind of hard.

they wonder why we consistantly have one of the top weightlifting teams in florida.

If you're a hockey player first, I'd be careful about the goals you set for yourself for weightlifting. Note that the best players of all time (Howe excluded - he was a natural machine) probably couldn't curl a 50lb dumbell but were in amazing shape. There have been guys who were rumored to bench over 500lbs, Joey Kocur, Tony Twist and Kristov Oliva come to mind - but bear in mind that all of those guys sucked as hockey players and were only on their teams to punnish and intimidate. Even if you want to be a fighter, you might still be best off avoiding heavy weight routines, recall that Probert, Dave Brown and Georges Laraque (by far the toughest 3 I've seen in my lifetime) didn't or don't lift weights. In the case of Laraque, he is amazingly physically gifted and in tremendous physical shape with a ton of natural strength, and in the case of Brown and Probert, they were just plain meaner than any muscleman wannabe that came after them. Weight training has it's place for a hockeyplayer, but be careful what you focus on while you're training. Rod Brind'Amour and Marty Lapointe are among the few really strong guys who can actually play, and I wouldn't call either of them a superstar. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Jaromir Jagr couldn't bench his body weight, but he doesn't seem to have too many problems because of his build.

I know my routine is killer, it will knock out your muscles fast.

Now, I would do this for all exersices, execpt when I start to platue then I change up,

example for the bench, Free weight, 3 sets 10 reps 210 lbs. then to 1 set of 100 reps at 70 lbs to 3 sets of 20 reps at 140. Thats what stuff I did. For some reason though that formual really increased my abductor strength in my legs faster than anouther muscle group. Thats what I did.

Incline bench FW is, 5 sets of 30-40 reps at 150, don't like the pressure on the lowwer back with higher wieght so I stop there weight wise.

Curl FW 3 sets 10 reps 45 lbs, then 1 set 100 reps 15 lbs, then 3 sets 20 reps at 30 lbs.

Tri-cepts, on mechines, is 3 sets of 20 reps at 150 lbs
1 set of 100 reps at 75, lbs, and 3 sets of 20 reps at 110-120.

But add on top of this the dips, if I do my body weight it's 3 sets of 100, if more 3 sets 10 reps at 180, then 1 set 100 reps at 60 to 3 sets at 20 reps at 120. And the three sets of push ups do 2 sets of 100 and on set of 80. maybe 20 sec breaks between sets. Pull ups, first 3 sets 30 reps, then the last at 20, do this holding legs out in front the whole time or down, doesn't really matter.

My lat pull downs, is 3 sets of 10 reps at 250, 1 set 100 reps at 100 lbs, then 3 sets 20 reps at 165 lbs.

The leg extentions, single leg, was 165 same routines as above just divide by 3, then add that + itself for the last set.

Leg curls, I stoped at 165 for weight, hurts the back of the knee. I think its cause I'm slightly bow legged.

Doing over 1000 reps for stomach, Now thats total. Like 500 situps, but then like 100 right side, then left, some legs lifts, and such. totaling 1000. Martial arts is awsome for this though.

I"m 150 lbs, never took any supplments.

But since I've moved I haven't been able to go to the gym in a bit ): But my running distance is way up to 14 miles.
