these laws were formed for the people of the old testament...not for the ages now...the new covenant has been made and therefore these laws arent in tact today!
Well realizing that ... you find yourself in the right place ... the dispensational forum.

Believe it or not there are many many many who don't know what you just stated so succinctly.

Oh, deah. The truth is far from you. I'm so sick of having to state this, it is milk not steak yet so many christians don't understand it. These 613 mitzvot/commandments of Torah are still in tact for all generations for all nations until the end of heaven and earth. Yeshua said so himself in Matthew 5:17-18. "I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah..."

Romans 3:20
"...because what Torah really does is show people how sinful they are."

The Torah or the 613 is the only standard by which YHVH has defined sin.

"..for where no Torah is, there is no transgression."
Romans 4:15

So it is by Torah that we are judged and the penalty of the judgement is death, which we are saved from by faith in the Messiah Yeshua.

"Does it follow that we abolish Torah by this trusting? Heaven forbid! On the contrary, we confirm Torah." Romans 3:31

Faith abolishes the penalty for sin, it does not abolish the definition of what sin is. So to say that Torah has been abolished and replaced by faith is simply ridiculous and is flat out a lie. Beware the adversity trying to blind your eyes from your sin because he teaches you that you do not even need to know what the definitions of sin against God is.

We are not under the New Covenant today. When it is in effect it will be with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

God Bless.

What do you do with Romans 8:1-4, Ephesians 2:15, 1 Cor. 6:12, 10:23?

God Bless.

What do you do with Romans 8:1-4, Ephesians 2:15, 1 Cor. 6:12, 10:23?

Well lets take these one at a time.

Romans 8:1-4 needs to be read in context with chapter 7, especailly 7:25

Romans 7:25 - 8:4
"To sum up: with my mind, I am a slave of God's Torah; but with my old nature, I am a slave of sin's Torah.

Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua. Why? Because the Torah of the Spirit, which produces this life in union with Messiah Yeshua, has se me free from the "Torah" of sin and death. For what the Torah could not do by itself, because it lacked the power to make the old nature cooperate, God did by sending his own Son as a human being with a nature like our own sinful one [but without sin]. God did this in order to deal with sin, and in so doing he executed the punishement against sin in human nature, so that the just requirement of the Torah might be fulfilled in us who do not run our lives according to what our old nature wants but according to what the Spirit wants."

Ok first off, this doesn't say that Torah no longer is the definition of sin. Second why can not people seperate this idea - that the following of Torah is not to gain salvation, salvation is by faith alone.

One can not aquire salvation through following Torah but following Torah is evidence of salvation.

I don't think that this concept is hard to grasp but from my dealing with others I'm finding that apparently it is. I don't understand why this is so hard to understand but let's break it down into it's most basic parts.

Human nature = unrighteous (sinful) behviour
Pealty for unrighteous behaviour = death
Faith and repentence = salvation from death (through Yesha)
Sign of faith and repentence = Righteous behaviour (good fruit)
Righteous behaviour is defined in Torah
Unrighteous behviour = disobedience of Torah

And the loop starts again. This passage in Romans is explaining this system. It goes on to say (vs7-8) "For the mind controlled by the old nature is hostile to God, because it does not submit itself to God's Torah (God's system of righteousness) - indeed it cannot. Thus, those who identify with their old nature cannot please God."

The work through the Holy Spirit is to help us submit to the soverignty of God and his commands - it doesn't mean that they are not longer applicable.

I guess the greatest area that people get stuck on is the sacrfical system of Torah. As Yeshua is now the sacrifice of sin no further sacrifices need be made. This is of course absolutely true. But the sacrficial system of Torah was not all of what Torah is. The sacrifical system was for the atonment for the failures in other areas of Torah. We all know that it is not right to kill, steal, lie. cheat, sleep around, use people etc. All these things are defined in Torah, so how are they obsolete? They aren't, only the pentalty for failing to do them which is death has become obsolete through faith, not sin itself - just the penalty for it. And here I am repeating myself for the hundredth time - but seventy times seven I will.

"So then, are we to say, 'Lets keep on sinnning, so that there can be more grace'? Heaven Forbid!" Romans 6:1-2

"On the contrary, offer yourselves to God as people alive from the dead, and your various parts to God as instruments for righteousness.....Don't you know that if you present yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, then, of the one whom you are obeying, you are slaves - whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to being made rightous?"
Romans 6:13-23

I follow Torah not for salvation. Salvation I have through grace and faith. I follow Torah because I submit myself to God's word, I submit myself to obedience of following his instructions and I fail, sometimes horribly but that is when the Messiah steps in to fill the gap that my disobedience creates between me and a relationship with the Holy and Eternal God.

Now as for the other three verses, there has been no discussion on how the individual parts of the Torah still apply. There are obvious areas that have been fulfilled, no believer will say that they haven't. While some areas of Torah have been fulfilled that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be understood. And then there are others that are still valid and still should be obeyed. No true believer would say that it is ok to murder would they? But how do we understand the Torah in the old context in relation to the new. It is actually quite easy but some back ground and definition will help, so you understand what I'm getting at. Otherwise anything I say will be incomplete and be able to be taken out of context.

_____________________________________________________

The word Torah normally translated "Law" in english comes from the root word Yarah. Yarah means "to throw, to shoot, to aim at. As a derivative of the word yarah, Torah means much more then just "Laws". The word Torah implies a starting point, a progression in a specific direction and a final ending point. A much better English translation of the word Torah would be instruction.

The Torah consists of many commandments. But the word commandment is again too narrow a word, the limits of the English language. The hebrew word is Mitzvah which comes from the root word tzavah. Tzavah means to constitute, to enjoin - appoint, forbid, give a charge, command, send a messenger, put, set in order. Tzavah is much more then just "command". While a mitzvah may seem to have a "do this, don't do that" directive it is more then just a moral statement, each might be considered a "revelation" as to the Divine will of God for mankind and lets us know a little about his nature.

*************

I would like to point out here that I am not a Jew, I do not follow Torah as a Jew, but I am Messianic. There seems to be issue with people being able to get some perspective and being able to separate these things. Torah as it was originally given is not Jewish, it's God's. There is actually a huge difference between how a Jew understands Torah, how a Messianic understands Torah and how some christians understand Torah. I would see the Jewish observance as an extreem, I would see the Christian statement "that the law has been done away with" and non-observance as an extreem. Both extreems are a perversion of the truth.

Let me break down the Torah so it is easier to understand. Torah has a structure. The Torah can be classified into 4 headings. Understanding these will help you to understand where I am coming from.

1. Kohanim Mitzvot - these a commands for the priests and Levities. Some will say that these are some that are no longer valid. Maybe, maybe not. Isn't Yeshua in the book of Hebrews called the eternal Kohein Gadol (high priest), are we not called to be kohanim in Revelation 1:6, 5:10. So while we are not required to sacrifice animals on an alter, we should at least understand the relevance of the office to were commissioned to perform, to understand the conduct that they were ordered to have. This also allows us to better understand the role of our Messiah. How is that obsolete?

2.Land of Israel Mitzvot
Some of the mitzvot of the Torah can only be fulfilled within the Land of Israel itself. However, as was the case with the Kohanim Mitzvot, these mitzvot are very important to all believers. Each of them has a deep, underlying symbolism that richly enhances a person's understanding of universal spiritual truths. Thus, even for the gentiles, these mitzvot are important to understand and apply spiritually. How is applying and understanding these spiritually obsolete?

3. Jewish Mitzvot
These were mitzvot given to the Jew as a "sign", to set them apart, to distinguish them from the other nations in a very specific way. The biggest of which is recognised is circumcision. These mitzvot where to be done by no one else other then the Jew (hence Ephesians 2:15 which explains that since the Messiah things have changed - the Jews are not the only one's to be a sign to the nations, all believers are) But understanding how and why these were signs let's us apply them spiritually under the new context of being separated for God. How is learning how God wants us to be holy and separate obsolete?

4.Noachide Regulations
These mitzot apply to everyone. No one may call themselves a believer if they choose to disavow these mitzvot. Many of these mitzvot contain moral commands that are easily justified as applicable to all people for all generations. The Noachide regulations has seven sub-categories.
- Do not deny God by commiting Idoltary
- Do not take the Lords name in vain
- Do not murder
- Do not commit forbidden sexual relationships
-Do not steal
-Do not eat uncooked meat or blood
-Laws established to enforce the Noachide regulations

Most will recognise these sub-categories but that's about it. But each has a list of mizvot that pertain directly to them underneath. How are these obsolete?

The fact is they aren't. Only the ongoing lie about the validity of Torah is obsolete and we must remedy to fix it. I will leave you with this:

"At that time many will be trapped into betraying and hating each other, many false prohpets will appear and fool many people; and many people's love will grow cold because of distance from the Torah." Matthew 24:10-12

It's always interesting to see this being said from Messianic culture. Thanks, Athaliamum. I really appreciate hearing it in these terms.

From more protestant culture I got this idea from some older books. Maybe it'll also help some get beyond this "embrace/reject" view of the Law to a point of "different role" for the Law, even if they don't line up exactly with Messianic or another view:

There isn't a single reference in them to life in the next world or any application to gentiles living in Atlantic City.

What are you talking about? Obviously you didn't read any of the above posts otherwise you would realise how ridiculous that sounds.

When God [in the Person of the Word] gave the Ten -the Decalogue- to Moses, which He had written with His own finger on tablets of stone, He showed Moses the heavenly pattern of the Ark of the Covenant to make, and commanded Moses to place the" Ten" on tablets of stone, in that Ark.

The Ark, itself, represents the redeemed souls who are born again in Spirit by the True and final sin offering of the New Man's blood, offered once, for all in Adam, on His own Mercy Seat body of the second human being ceation; and the heavenly Mercy Seat which Moses made the pattern of, covers the Ark in which the Ten are placed; which Ark is an oracle of the One New Man, whose heart of flesh has the "Ten" written on their inner being.

The seventh day Sabbath itself is a sign which was given to Israel, only, as an oracle of the true eternal Sabbath rest for all in Adam who come "under the Covenant in the blood of the New Man"; and thereby cease their own works and enter into His eternal finished work for their peace with God. Every one of the Ten -excepting the seventh day is reinforced in the New Tesatament for all Believers, are they not? but all Believers are in the True Sabbath Rest which was oracled in the seventh day sign given to the nation of Israel.

Every born again Believer has the "Ten" written on their hearts of flesh by the "finger of God'.

Jhn 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Jhn 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Athaliamum:

THANK YOU for your imformative post. I have to admit that I am not very familiar with the Messianic doctrines. To fully understand what you have written, I would have to read it through a couple more times. Therefore I cannot respond to what you wrote.

As a non-Messianic, allow me to express my views pertaining to the Law, and for one's salvation/justification.

Prior to the Law (Torah) given to Moses, sin was in the world. Therefore sin was not the breaking of the Laws given to Moses. They didn't exist. Sin was disobeying God. God gave Adam and Eve a conscience to know right from wrong. Also, there was no punishment for murder at the time Cain slew his brother Abel. That punishment didn't come until we get to Noah.

As you have correctly stated, salvation/justification has always been based upon FAITH. FAITH in believing/doing what God required at that point in time of human history.

When God gave the Civil, Moral, and Ceremonial Laws to Moses, for the instructions in righteousness for the children of Israel, they had to do the deed/works of the Law by FAITH. Those deed/works were the vehicle that demonstrated their faith.

Those Laws were not given to the Gentiles. If one that was a Gentile, and wanted to serve the true and living God of Israel, that one had to become a Jew (proselyte), and place themselves under the Laws of Moses.

When Jesus came to earth to fulfill all the OT promises to Israel, Israel as a nation, rejected their King and His Kingdom. This caused God to set the nation of Israel aside; just as he did the Gentiles back at the Tower of Babel in Gensis 11.

With the setting aside of Israel, and placing them on the same level at the set aside Gentiles, God raised up another Apostle (Saul/Paul) to usher in this present dispensation of Grace. Salvation/justification today is not based upon doing the deed/works of the Law by FAITH, but by one placing their FAITH ALONE in the Cross work (death, burial and resurrection) of Christ.

With the setting aside of Israel, as a nation, the Laws of Moses are no longer in effect. However, when one reads Paul's Epistles to members of the Chruch, the Body of Christ, as our instructions in righteousness, we find that Paul teaches all the precepts of the 10 commandments, with the exception of the 4th, the sabbeth day keeping.

We, as members of the Church, the Body of Christ, are not saved by our good works, however, we are saved unto good works (Eph. 2:10). When we stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ, after the rapture of the Church, we will not be judged for our sins, but will be rewarded for the works that we did do that edified our Lord.

Being Jesus paid the "sin debt" for all the world, no one will ever be judged for their sins.

Again, THANKS for your informative post.

God Bless.

...
!
that is not biblically true, dispy.

Jesus blood covered the transgression of "Adam", which caused the first death for all Adam -we are all in Adam as his seed- , and by that covering, He opened the Way back to the Father for all who come through the “Strait Gate” -the "Acceptable" blood offering, sprinkled once for all on His Mercy Seat body; but no one in Adam can come through the Gate unless they are absolved of personal sins by identifying with Jesus as Scapegoat.

On the Yearly Day of Atonement, when the chosen Scapegoat had all the sins of the people confessed over him and was sent away into the wilderness bearing those sins,-under the Law of Moses- that only put those sins away until the next year, for the people were not “made perfect” by the blood of bulls and goats sprinkled on the Mercy Seat at that time, and the remembrance of sins remained for they had to continually come again a nd offer the same offering yearly -which only was a type and shadow of the heavenly truth given to them to copy as an oracle of the Final Acceptable sin offering on the True Mercy Seat.

When the True and final Scapegoat had all the sins and iniquities of each person in Adam laid on Him -which is the moment the Father turned from Him on the cross and He thereby tasted our “spiritual death“, first, and took our physical death, second- He departed His perfect sinless body and took those sins and iniquities to “the wilderness” -Sheol, below- rising again from there as the “perfected” Man after the three days and three nights, leaving those sins and iniquities in Sheol, below.

Now that He is risen in perfection and ascended as Son of Man/Son of God/ Firstborn and High King and High Priest of earth in His New Man body of the second human being creation, we can also rise with Him as sons of God in Him -being joined to His One Living Spirit by adoption, which is the New Birth: but to identify with His taking of our own personal sins we must “lay hands” on Him, as our Scapegoat, as it were, confessing our personal sins and iniquities as those which He took away with Him to Sheol, to leave there -and the penalty of them was that departing to Sheol.

But He rose victorious over sin and death, for there was no sin in Him, and the payment for our ransom being paid, we cannot live with Him if we do not identify personally with His being our own Scapegoat and bearing our own sins and iniquities away -never to bring them up again against us.

If we will be human being sons of God in the NEw Man's image then we must enter into the Father's presence on high -into the Holy of Holies- through that "Strait Gate", the True Mercy Seat, itself, which is His New Man body of human flesh which received the once for all sin offering which was accepted, which put away forever the transgression of Adam [we are all “Adam seed”] and made it possible for us to be covered with New garments, called "Salvation" -to receive the glory of the Father indwelling, in.

If you have sinned, you must repent and confess them to Him, believing the Gospel of God that He took them away with Him to Sheol.
All in Adam will rise again because He covered the transgression of Adam, but those who have not identified personally with His bearing their own sins committed with understanding in their own bodies while they had their being will be cast aways, in the resurrected body- rejects of the harvests [there are two harvests of earth] when all the harvest of earth is gathered in at the end of this present creation: and to be a cast away and reject is to suffer the second death of total separation forever from not only the Father’s glory, but from the Light that lights every man that comes into the world [the Word] and from the Holy Spirit in whom we live and move and have our being in this present creation, since the beginning.
It is the Father we are separated from totally since the fall, and His glory indwelling us as sons of God in Adam [which was lost at the fall and cut us off from access to the Holy of Holies above, as sons of God in Adam [Luke 3:38].

And to be a cast away and reject is to be cast into the outer darkness, where the Light never shines, which is the lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels; which all who take their part will have a share, in the end, forever, without remedy.

Good grief. You preach "another Gospel". You are perhaps the best case that there can be for dispensational understanding of the Scriptures.
