Well, if I was gonna boycott Harry Potter for mystical things it protrays, I'd have to boycot Narnia and LOTR. But since I know it's fiction, and I know the Bible only warns against TRUE practicing of witchcraft, I'm able to make a sensical decision and not boycott based on knee-jerk fear.

Great point! I would argue that the reason that you can make a "sensical decision" is through discernment. Harry Potter is entertainment -- pure and simple. I think that we make too much of things like this. The same thing happens at halloween as well. My son dresses up for halloween, my son also watched Harry Potter. I'm not worried that he is going to grow up to be a "devil worhiper". He's a kid and is entertained by "kid" things. It's up to me to raise him in a God-honoring manner.

Entertainment that does not uplift the name of Jesus is sinful. What we watch on tv is a prime example of how the enemy can decieve us to think that it is okay to watch such a sort because children are involved. The enemies main stream is to kill, steal and destroy. Witches and hocus pocus is sinful, read the word it don't say that Harry Potter is in the Bible but, knowing the true heart of Christ, the Holy Spirit within you should kick in and guide you to appropriate entertainment. As the word says again any unwholesome or foolishness is sinful. In order to stay pure we must surround ourselves in things that will add to our salvation to grow closer to Christ. The word says not to be unequally yoked so don't watch anything that you wouldn't watch in front of Christ himself. Hope that helped God Bless!

Sorry, but, uh... I'm not gonna watch The 700 Club for my sole source of entertainment. And I don't think "Still Standing" or "Everybody Loves Raymond" is sinful, any more or less than, say, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Charlie Brown, Garfield, Football, Basketball, Soccer, That 70s Show, The Chronicles of Narnia (listed twice for emphasis), The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Manheim Steamroller, Garth Brooks, Harry Connick, Jr., Bones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Rapture/Tribulation movies of the John Hagee/Jack Van Impe way (such as Tribulation, and Judgment), this website (CF), Orange Juice, Milk, Soda, Water, Air, Republican Party, Democrat Party, Independent Party, Green Party, Socialist Party, Left Feet, Right Feet, Hands, etc.

There is a good video out there called Harry Potter Witchcraft Repackaged available from http://www.chick.com/catalog/videos/0127.asp
Here is the promo for the video

Millions of American schoolchildren have a new subject in school: sorcery!
Through the Harry Potter series, the ancient occult practice of sorcery is being introduced in almost every public school in America. This video explains how Scholastic Inc., the largest publisher of children's books in the world, is supplying Harry Potter materials to millions of schoolchildren. Scholastic Inc. is using its unrivaled position in the educational system to flood classrooms and libraries with wizardry, repackaged as "children's fantasy literature." Teachers are encouraged to read the Harry Potter books aloud in class, and millions of children are being densensitized to the dangers of the occult spirit world.

Through Harry's world of sorcery they are learning the occultic tools -- occult visualization and soulish mind power, wands, brooms, spells and curses.

In this video, you will see how completely occult is the world of Harry Potter. After reading the Harry Potter books, millions of children will demand to see Warner Bros. new movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Christian parents have faced a similar problem for years with the teaching of evolution in their public schools. They have responded by teaching their children that they cannot believe everything they are taught in school. Now, with the Harry Potter books on sorcery becoming part of public school curriculum, parents need to know enough about it to also teach their children that the spell-casting and other activities of Harry Potter are also forbidden territory. This video will help.

LOL! ^_^

Were you really truly hoping that you would only get replies saying that they agree with you?

This thread has been done over and over again.

That is quite rude. Maybe to you it is an old issue but obviously it isn't to the one that started the post. Keep in mind there are many members on here and many new ones joining all the time. God bless. :)

Sorry but I can list atleast one thing sinful with some of the things that you listed. FOr example that 70's show which glorifies drugs, alcohol rebellion to authoirty and parents not to mention premarital sex. The bible says to set no wicked thing before your eyes and to abstain from all appearance of evil. God bless. :)

Sorry if you interpreted this as rude.

I was just saying that this has been done over and over and it means a lot of loose threads lying about. Perhaps you could learn a lot more by reading the pages and pages of replies on this topic in the other threads and pick it up in one of those? People won't want to repeat their posts in every different Harry Potter thread, so if you go to one that's thriving...

Oh and I didn't say it was "old". I just said it's been done over and over - ie. many different Harry Potter threads. And if you just want answers that agree with you, that's no fun! :p

EDIT: Just realised the_truth isn't the original poster. Please direct "you" to the OPoster. :)
