I was terrified of storms as a kid! I lived on the small island of Guernsey near the coast of France as a child in the 50's, we used to get some horrific thunderstorms. The island had been occupied by the Germans in WW2 and the beaches still contained the odd mine or two. throughout my childhood these would be safely exploded from time to time. If I heard a bang I would immediately think it was thunder and take cover, when told it was a mine, I was reassured, LOL!!!

Many years later I was visiting my island home and stepped out of the car in the middle of a thunderstorm to run into a shop, forked lightning hit the ground an inch or so away from me. On lookers thought I had been hit, I seem to have had an amazing escape! Obviously, my maker was not ready for the pleasure of my company, LOL!!!

well, as long as the lightnings don't hurt me, i'm happy to sit and watch the blue electricity lacing the sky and hear the booming noise overhead.

oh yes, also as long as it doesn't cause a blackout and cut the power to my computer. :p

My Mum was using the phone once in the middle of a storm, and a blue streak came out of it, and threw her across the room. She was shocked, but unhurt. On another occasion lightning came down the cooker cable and blew a big hole in the back of the cooker!

My grandmother told me an incident when she was a girl. Apparently ball lightning (lightning bolt) came down their chimney in her home in Northern England, rolled out of the hearth along the fortunately tiled floor, and out of the back door, which they opened to let it out!!

thunderstorms are awsome. i was scared of them when I was younger. but now they are so fancinating. Duing summer, I can see some real good ones right out my back door. I've never seen a tornado. i always thought to be a metorologist. but science has never been a friend of mine when it comes to school.

Good escape Tangnefedd! I almost was hit too, my dad was teaching me how to drive and when it was time for us to to head home and him to take the drivers seat I had parked next to a telephone pole and when we where switching places lighting came crashing into the pole  and I do not know exactly how close it was, probably a couple of feet, but I remember the light blinded me as it hit.

I totally love a thunderstorm. I smile every time I see one coming. (Think that smirk on Johnny Depp's face in Black Pearl ^_^ ) I was looking out my window earlier today and was hoping for a storm. Just checked weather.com and we are just having clouds that's all :(

I look forward to the spring when there are a lot of storms. I like to stand on my patio and feel the wind and the energy that is in the air. It's like the air wakes up. :priest: The air is so charged it's amazing.

Sorry but I HATE STORMS!

I pray before storms, during storms, and after storms. I shudder because my beautiful white Arabian horse stands out in the pasture during storms. The barn is not a safe place because of spruce trees around it that may fall. One of my friends lost all three of her horses to lightning. Straight-line winds in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan) can fell thousands of massive trees in minutes. One large pine tree by the house was hit by lightning and the heat exploded the sap and 10 ft. spears of the tree were shot in every direction and buried in the ground for several feet. It was an awful sight.

I have not seen a tornado, but when I lived in downstate Michigan I was trying to get home with my Golden Retriever before a nasty storm hit. We made it through the woods and into an open field and back to the house just before I heard a horrid sound like a locomotive in the front of the house. It was black as night and the trees outside the window were bent sideways, and I didn't even have time to get myself and all my dogs to the basement. After it blew over I ran out to check the horses in the pasture, which were fine but running and wild-eyed. I turned on the radio and found out that spotters had seen, and radar had detected, a funnel cloud right where I lived. So...it went right over without touching down. Glad I didn't see it.

When I was a child I was sitting on my bed, leaning on the window sill, and watching a thunderstorm. The window was open halfway. There was a brilliant blue flash that blinded me and a crack of thunder that rattled my bones and shattered my ears. Lightening had struck the TV antenna and the ground wire ran right down the side of the window. The next day we saw that the ivy on the house on either side of the wire leading to the ground was burned black. I never liked storms after that.

I hate tornadoes...they are evil...they even look evil. I have had tornado nightmares since I was a child and I still have them even now about every week.

I love thunderstorms
Here in the high mountains of Vallecito, Colorado there are thunder storms every afternoon in the mid to late-summers. I love to sit by the fire place, curled in a blanket, reading a good book with the pitter pat of falling rain on the roof and windows. The soothing echos of the thunder and wind through the trees are magnificent. I have painted many pictures and written many poems about the storms...really, I love them that much. Even when the power goes out I don't care, reading by the fire requires no electricity ;)

I lived in Kansas for a couple of years when I was younger, and I was horrified of tornados and storms. After I moved to Japan and lived through taifun, I realised how awesome the power of storms can be. I'm actually planning on doing some storm chasing in the future.
I love thunderstorms. With a passion.
