I have written much over the years about friends and friendship. But often we write from head knowledge and not from experience. Today, I wish to share from my experience.

There are many songs we sing about the friendship of Jesus! Indeed, there is Scripture that tell us in Proverbs 18:24: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” And what an unspeakable blessing that is!

After God created Adam he said in Genesis 2:18: “It is not good that the man should be alone…” Up to this point God was Adam’s only “Friend” and they had fellowship together. This satisfied Adam’s spiritual need. Yet Adam had a fleshly side. He needed a human counterpart.

To satisfy that need, God created for Him a helper, and companion, and most important of all, a friend. Though they were two separate bodies they became “one” in every way.
Genesis 5:2: “Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.” It was Adam who called his friend Eve! God called THEM Adam.

Thus Adam and Eve, “husband and wife”, “helpers”, “companions”, were also friends and “best friends”! Godly couples today are all of these things to each other. Those of you who remember the televised senate hearings a few years ago involving Oliver North, know also that he continually and constantly referred to his wife as his “Best Friend”. In fact I don’t recall if he ever referred to her as his “wife” or even by her name, simply, “my best friend”. How wonderful that is and how sad that it is so often not the case.

Maybe your best friend is your mate; Maybe not! But who ever your best friend is, that one, along with all of your friends, need to know you care. Yes, I know they do, but you need to tell them. It is nice to hear that you are loved and cared for, and appreciated. So call them or write them and let them know you are praying for them.

I have friends and my life is very rich because they are there for me. I have let them know, this day, they are priceless to me and cannot be replaced. Let yours know how you feel.

Gasoline powers our automobiles, and electricity gives light to our bulbs. It is our Friends that enrich our lives and make the world beautiful and a little less frightening at times. It is the prayers and kind words of our friends that give us comfort and support in times of troubles.

To my Friends, I say Thanks, and I love you with all my heart. May God bless you with the love of more friends than you can count!

Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Proverbs 27:6: “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
