Dress codes should have provisions to accomodate those who have religious obligations.

I totally agree. This is really sad. Where did this happen at? I didn't see the location mentioned in the article.

There is no right to wear a special hat. If they make everyone else follow a certain policy then it is not discrimination in any form. Besides the TA turban looks kinda snazzy.

Ah, but for many, wearing a 'special' hat is a part of their religious practice, or for some sikhs, a practical solution to neatly cover up their long hair. For many americans, special clothing are as important to our religious practice as attending church may be to a christian. I don't see how "special hats" interfere with this man doing his job, and I don't see why they would need to make him wear a certain one, if other workers can chose to go bare headed.

If the employer (regardless of who that employer is) makes a policy that all employees must wear pink bunny slippers, then the employees have only two choices: wear the slippers or walk. If wearing pink bunny slippers is in violation of my religious beliefs then I have to make a choice of where my priorities lie.

They didn't say he could not wear his turban - which he can and does wear.. the only thing they are telling him to do is wear a pin with the TA logo on it.. they also have special logo scarves for women who must wear them for religious purposes... Where were his rights violated?? No where... If they said he had to wear a HAT and not his turban - then yes - his rights would have been violated..

Dress codes change continously - I work for the Transportation Dept in MY State and they change the dress code all the time.. Depends who is elected to office and the favors passed along with that election...

Now, this is just a guess, but I am betting that he views his turban as a religious object, and he objects to putting something irreligious on it. I would equate it to McDonald's requiring christian employees who wear crosses to wear one with the golden arches across the front, or one with Ronald McDonald crucified on it.

The point is being you shouldnt have to unless the company is private. There is no need for these rules.
