  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I would say indwelling and regeneration happen simultaneously.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

Yeah, the Bible is not easy. It's healthy to go back once in a while and re-evalute passages. It's true 1 Cor 2:14 says the natural man does not receive the things (the wisdom?) of the Spirit of God. It seems the reason Paul brings up the natural man is to contrast the Spirit and the flesh...

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I like to share some thoughts about this. In Joh 15:16, Jesus talks to his apostles. It would be strange if Jesus meant he chose them for salvation, since he also chose Judas who never got saved. To me it makes more sense Jesus chose them as apostles and appointed them for a mission. 2 Thess...

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

Much of what I'm saying is coming from experience, rather than buying into any preset theology. Rom 8:8 says: "those who are in the flesh can't please God." It is true that a man in the flesh can't live a pleasing life to God. However, pleasing God and not being able to respond at all to God...

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

But that is not all the Spirit does. The Spirit convicts you, you repent and the Spirit gives you the new birth/the spiritual birth.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

You seem to be saying if you are in the Spirit you aren't affected by the flesh, but that is not true. There is a constant battle between the Spirit and the flesh for the believer. In a similar way, the man in the flesh can be affected by the Spirit into conviction, leading to repentance, which...

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

Yes, but when the Holy Spirit convicts the fleshly man, he realizes he has been wrong, even he still does not yet love Jesus, he repents and is regenerated/born again and starts to love Jesus.

True, but we don't agree on when repentance takes place. You believe regeneration is before repentance, I believe it's after.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I'm not as certain, because the flesh hates God. Unbelivers rarely admit it, but there is an aversion against what is holy among unbelievers.

Do you got some Scripture to back it up, grace being a gift?

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I'm not against the idea that faith is a gift. But speaking of Eph 2:8, I lean toward the understanding that Paul says: "Salvation (being saved) is the gift of God". But rightly so, faith is by grace, as Acts 18:27 says.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

There is a third option to Eph 2:8. Paul might refer to "salvation" as the gift, which is by grace, through faith.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I would say faith is the ordinary means by which God brings people into salvation, but there are exceptions. For instance I believe young children and those without the mental capacity to believe the gospel are saved without faith. Salvation does not depend on ones ability to produce faith...

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

True! Separating Christ from faith goes both ways. Christ saves, and faith is the means by which His saving work is received. it's not either or, it's both.

The Saving results of the Death of Christ !

I'm posting relevant verses that IMO oppose your understanding in your OP (and I have explained why), but you avoid them. You post a lot of other verses and explain them, but not the verses I have asked for. As long as you aren't willing to engage those verses directly, I'm not interested in...
