  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has the Bible become an idol

shells yea the bible has become an idol. Has anyone here studied theology? Weighed views? Set all your beliefs as a christian out on the table, willing to change to whatever is really taught....and realized how deep and what great benefit scholars are? For about 3 years i carried a Bible with me...

Is it a sin to listen to secular music?

i think this is where being a critical thinker and not a "tool" comes into play. Now, christians, both young and old are pretty much known for not challenging things and using critical thinking and looking very unrealistic in their views on things like this. I love music. I play in a Death...

Can a homosexual be a Christian?

hmm, i'm interested in any biblical reason for homosexuality as a sin? i really want to see what you've got. and do your homework for real, lol, i think its deffinately a much harder arguement to tackle. i believe a homosexual can be a christian. i'm not gay by any means, but have a lot of...

The Episcopaleans get it spot on.

i went to St. John's Episcopal Church this morning with a friend, it was glorious. i love it. The aspect of the group as opposed to the indiviual is very important to me now. I come from a pentecostal background and have doubts about it, but there's so many things in it that have me in fear to...

[OPEN] Am I a true christian?

To make it to God by works is too far away from our grasp. That takes out the entire exclusiveness of Christ, otherwise, Christ was worthless. I can understand a lot of the points you made. I drink, smoke occasionally, i think saying things like "you twisted pig ****er" are very funny, i try out...

    [open]God is Dead from Nietzsche

Because that's a part of christian theology, and its a balance, and for either side to go too far is in either ignorant or biased territory. metaphors, analogies, and the such have their place. What about comparing god to a lion, or a king, or shepherd? all have an aspect or aspect that the...

    [open]God is Dead from Nietzsche

Spong is not very theologically sound. As much as i'd like him to be right, i cannot, in most serious ways, weigh his beliefs. He may seem very exciting, but again, not very theologically sound. "Spong has led many people away from the true path. i understand anyone who has questions...that...

Studying the Bible: Is it a sin?

ok, personally, every contradiction i've seen and have been posed with so far has been correctly, and it seems like i've encountered quite a few, especially a lot of the same ones over and over, and i still find a way that they seem to make sense without leaving context. I personally and in...

    Baptism Of The Holy Spirit.

i'm very iffy about spiritual gifts, especially speaking in tounges which immediately goes to the subject of being baptised in the holy spirit. I believe that one is baptised in the spirit at the point of conversion. What happens next is sketchy to me, concerning "then it manifests itself as...

Christian Rap, Rock, Hip-Hop and Gospel: What's Your Opinion?

does everything you listen to have to be worship music? I learn a lot from listening to Bob Dylan. I enjoy differing views, especially outside of christianity. Much of those views are only found in metal/death metal/hardcore/punk/hardcore music scenes and sub-cultures. To be a christian, does it...

I just wanted to share why I became a Calvinist (Feel free to share!)

Thank you too. I'm interested in your views of the pentecostal church/teachings. Personally, i disagree more and more with the way i was always taught to interpret scripture and feelings and to neglect the mind.

I just wanted to share why I became a Calvinist (Feel free to share!)

I'm not exactly calvinist, but our stories are similar. I was raised pentecostal and there seems to be no good thing said about calvinism. One of the greatest inspirations and teachers in my life has very calvinist/persbyterian views even though we went to a Pentecostal University (Lee...

    Challenge my brain please

dinos are mentioned in the bible, but a lot of popular translations (bent on making the text more vernacularly readable for english, which in itself has its many problems for real academic study and answers) substitute in Job for example towards the end of the book where Leviathan and Behemoth...

Arguments against traditional view of lust?

woah, hmmmm. Personally, i'm very sketchy about the bible being completely inerrant in the sense of study, but almost all of the arguments i've ever seen for evangelical bashing are just out right ignorant. The view on lust, and on the place of the bible in anyone's life, along with other...

How Often Does Your Pastor Talk About Hell?

Love is it, definitely. The kind of love that allows you to genuinely love someone, even if its not as "extreme" as someone who is "loving" from fear. Both are genuine, and i've experience both, given and recieved. But, in its clearest sense, loving someone from who you are without fear, is...
