  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Inheriting Faith?!

I was raised in a Christian home, but was an agnostic. I knew all the Bible stories, even better than some Christians I knew. However, it didn't make sense to me. I had too many questions that my human logic couldn't reason. One day, God basically slapped me across the face to get my attention...

    The question of Free Will

That's a pretty darn good comparison/explanation of the two, especially given its brevity. Good job.

    The question of Free Will

Exactly. There's an enormous difference between free will and freed will. Before being saved, we have nothing to offer God. As Isaiah says, "our righteous deeds are like filthy rags." When Christ saves us and the Holy Spirit sets us with a seal, we then have a freed will and can do things to...

    The question of Free Will

That's the same thing I'm saying. God calls His children. Does He call everyone? I think the Bible says "no." Not if it's not His will for all to follow Him. God raised up Pharaoh to destroy him. He hated Esau from birth. I'm with you and appreciate your willingness to hear contrary views...

    The question of Free Will

I'm at work and don't have my Bible with me, but here are a few off the top of my head, and I'm probably forgeting the really strong ones. Forgive me in advance. *Matthew 11:27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the...

    The Christian dilema

No one is mentioning Paul's speech to the people of Athens in Acts 17. He says: "26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek...

    The question of Free Will

I completely agree. Not all Christians believe in Free Will. I used to until I read the Bible with a much more critical eye. You can't get away from the fact that God is Sovereign, which means He is in total control. That has implications in salvation as well. It's everywhere. The more I study...

    Which way to go?

Great questions. Before I say anything, I'd like to take this small commercial break to say that there are lots of questions to which I don't know the answer. I'm keeping a mental file so I can ask God some day. Although, I'm of the strong belief that once I'm in the presence of God, I won't...

    Which way to go?

I disagree. We need to differentiate between "socially acceptable" and "morality." I am taught what is socially acceptable. I'm am born with a moral compass. Your own example supports my point. Just because U.S. slavery was an accepted practice at the time did not make it morally right. There is...

    Which way to go?

MemeBuster - I agree that many people simply follow the religion of their parents, but that alone doesn't make a particular religion wrong. The reason for following it may be weak, but that by itself doesn't weaken the validity of that religion. I believe "abandoning your logic and stepping...

What do you think about Non-Christians?

I, too, try to enter all relationships with an open mind, but I am human. While I try not to judge - as a former agnostic myself - certain things do pop in my mind when I meet an athiest. Of course I've been proven wrong, just as you have with the generalizations about Christians. The things...

    Jesus and homosexuality

KritterCat, In the OT, there were three types of law: -Ceremonial then - sacrifices for sin, day of atonement, etc. now - communion -Civil then - if your bull kills your neighbors goat, you have to give him your 3 best goats, etc. now - if you speed, you'll get a ticket. -Moral then -...

Uhmmm tulc, no I haven't read it, but that's not what I'm saying. I'm not condemning the book. You've missed the point entirely. The point isn't the book at all. Just pointing out to my friend Cleany that every book has an agenda, including the one I posted. I couldn't let him get away with...

"It seeks to offer help to those who have grown up in the world of fundamentalism or have become comitted to it but who have in the end come to feel that it is a prison from which they must escape." Yeah...he's got NO agenda. Right... Come on Cleany. You're smarter than that. But you are...
