  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Lost tribes of Israel

I don't remember where in the Bible the Jews call the Israelites of the northern kingdom Gentiles. Are you referencing an extrabiblical source, or is there a Bible passage I'm not thinking of?

    Lost tribes of Israel

I haven't read the entire thread (it's... long), but I'm wondering how you fit archaeological evidence in with your view of the ten "lost" tribes? We know from archaeology that when the Assyrians attacked the northern kingdom of Israel, the city of Jerusalem grew at least 15 times larger than it...

Old/obscure/niche operating systems that people would actually use Bible software on if it existed?

Most of the "basically usable" older versions of Windows (XP and higher) already have good Bible software available for them. 2000 and lower might not be so usable, but I think theWord (or at least older versions of it) might be able to be used even as far back as 95. The option for older...

How to trust and love God when he disappoints you?

There are two things I try to remember that generally help me get through the pain of past abuse. One, often the abuse we've gone through can end up being useful to learn from so we can comfort others who have gone through similar circumstances. Two, not everything that happens in life is God's...

Old/obscure/niche operating systems that people would actually use Bible software on if it existed?

I've been rolling around in my head the idea of making Bible study software for DOS-family operating systems, since I wasn't able to find any decent Bible software for DOS last time I looked, and I believe some people may still be stuck using DOS for whatever reason, or might prefer to use DOS...

On the meaning and applicability of 1 Timothy 2:12-14

There's a double-misunderstanding here. The reason this is a problem case is not because Phebe was "appointed to rule and control men" (in all likelihood she wasn't, as you point out, deacons in general were not exactly rulers), but because it undoes an argument that says 1 Timothy 2:12-14...

On the meaning and applicability of 1 Timothy 2:12-14

I do not know of scriptural support for this statement. Proverbs 14:1 seems to disagree: Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

On the meaning and applicability of 1 Timothy 2:12-14

With all due respect, how closely did you read the original post? I'm not talking about either of those incidents. At all. I quoted the entire passage I'm referencing in the original post. I went into quite a bit of detail about what I thought it meant and why. I enjoy the discussion, but I...

On the meaning and applicability of 1 Timothy 2:12-14

That is not what I said. I said that both Abraham and Sarah submitted to each other in love mutually. Yes, Sarah submitted to Abraham when saying that she was his sister, and Abraham submitted to Sarah when casting out Hagar and Ishmael. I didn't mean to ignore it in general, but to look at the...

    What is "Divine Love"?

This is probably going to be a bit long since the question and topic is tightly related to the plan of salvation. This is my current understanding of things, I'm happy to be corrected as necessary. God created the world for His pleasure. (Revelation 4:11) He intended from the beginning to have...

How does original sin work according to theistic evolution?

The unsaved who are resurrected don't remain alive though. They die physically again after judgment. Those who are saved remain alive, which means ultimately they were saved from physical death.
