  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Biking or walking?

tadpole ... there's a simple solution to that. Build a fixed gear bike. 1 gear, no freewheel. So you can neither shift into an easier gear nor coast. And, they're easier to maintain because you have no derailleurs (and possibly no handbrakes) and associated cables to deal with. Kind of like this...

    mountain bikes

Depending on what you're offroad trails are like ... if they're not too bad (steep inclines/declines, really technical terrain with lots of rocks, large logs, etc.), I say forget a mountain bike ... AND forget a road bike. Cyclocross all the way. Absolule rock-on bikes, and a fast growing...

    Basal Calories

yipper skipper blessedmom .... that looks right. Keep in mind, that assumes that you just sit on your buttox and do nothing all day. From the first page: "You can now multiply this number by an activity factor to get a better idea of calories spent in a day. Sedentary = 1.2 Lightly Active =...

    Basal Calories

blessedmom .... yes, something went wrong in your calculation ... no way you only need 170 calories with no activity ... you'd die. romecoming made it easier since he has the conversions to english units right in the formula ... try that and see what you get. Dan

    Reasons to Bike to work!

Nah ... not if you really think about it actually. Typical year: Commuting by car = ~7000 miles (yup, I qualify for cheap insurance) Commuting by bike = ~4000 miles Avg. Speed: Car lets say 40 mph. It's probably a lot higher than that because the majority of driving I do in the car is longer...

    Reasons to Bike to work!

dood ... I'm all for it. Actually, I do bike to work, and church, and friends places, and youth group, and stores for errands/shopping, whenever I can. I put almost as many miles on my bikes as I do my car. Almost all of that riding/commuting is on a fixed gear no less  But, in that link...

    Caffeine

    Eating Over The Holidays

    4. Give yourself permission to have "cheat days" - and schedule them in I've scheduled them in for everyday :D But I'm OK with that, I'll just commute a few extra miles as long as the roads are fairly clear ... and hope I don't get hit by any cars lol Dan

what are your reasons for wanting to be thin?

Yeah ... what Beastt said. You know ... I knew someone once who was a bit ... errr .... overweight. Climbing a flight of stairs was exhausting. OK, that's an extreme, but quite frankly, being fit and healthy means I can bike, hike, snow shoe, ski, run, etc. etc. further, faster and with less...

    curious question

So .... your main concern is pounds. So you're not willing to put on a few lbs due to muscle gain, even though you will likely be more fit, lose fat, build muscle, and possibly wind up in better health than you've ever been in your entire life. But you also said that "but for me it is more about...

    curious question

A calorie is the amount of food having an energy-producing value of one large calorie. One large calorie is the amount of heat required to reaise the temperature of one kilogram of water one degree centigrade. Make sense? Not really. A calorie is more or less an amount of energy. The little...

    curious question

The machine would not know that you have a weight tied to your waist unless you input it into the computer. Remember .. the machine is merely estimating the number of calories you're burning. My guess is it's probably doing it based on your age, weight and heart rate. That doesn't provide an...

    Is it possible to burn

Is it possible? Absolutely. Go for a nice long swim, or run, or bike ride. Length of time will vary with the activity. A nice 50 mile bike ride will surely burn 1k calories or more ... a century ride even more. Why do you want to burn 1k calories in a day? Exercise can get interesting once you...
