  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Holy Communion, Real Presence or merely symbolic?

Christ is not speaking figuratively in John 6. It is important for us as Christians that we do not "lean on our own understandings" and place limits on God based upon our own, limited understanding of the universe. There are things that can be true and literal without being able to be seen with...

Should Women be Allowed to Pastor Churches?

Personally, I don't see the argument against it. God declares all people, men and women, regardless of race or ethnicity, to be spiritual equals. Also, many of the gifts that come more naturally to women, compassion, empathy, generosity, nurture, inner strength, are the same gifts that are at...

Why and how did you choose your patron saint?

I was raised as a Protestant. The night my friend was dying was the first time I ever reached out to God on my own. I prayed to the point of exhaustion until I was so drained I passed out, when I woke up in the morning he was gone...forever. I was so hurt and so angry, I turned my back on God...

Why and how did you choose your patron saint?

St. Anastasia the Royal Martyr, because a big part of my faith journey was the life and early death of an old childhood friend. What I went through with him reminded me a lot of her and her little brother Alexi, so I knew that she was someone who would understand the biggest blessing and biggest...

LDS Race and the LDS Priesthood

From 1849 to 1978, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) prohibited anyone with black ancestry from being ordained to the priesthood. As part of this ban, both black men and women at various times were prohibited from taking part in ceremonies in LDS Temples, serving in...

I rely on God and look to other sources to gain a better understanding of things that confuse me.

Hello Brothers and Sisters! Christ is in our Midst!

Since you were kind enough to share yours, this is what happened, I'll tell you in the order I found out about/experienced them. 1. When I was 9 years old one of my best friends died and it shook my faith to its core because I had prayed for his survival and the answer was "no". A few months...

Hello Brothers and Sisters! Christ is in our Midst!

Are you saying that researching anything outside the bible is a waste of time? If not please correct me as misrepresenting you is not my intent at all. If that is what you mean, then I would have to say that unless you are a first century convert from Judea or Rome you would be mistaken...

Hello Brothers and Sisters! Christ is in our Midst!

My journey was similar although I ended up in a different place. My family was mostly made up of Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians, I grew up mostly in a Methodist Church, I and I would later find out certain other family members, have been treated very badly by the local Baptist church...

Hello Brothers and Sisters! Christ is in our Midst!

I disagree, after all, at a time when I was sort of spinning out in the Protestant belief system in which I had been raised, and not really feeling at home anymore and seeing a lot of errors and contradictions when you compared what was being preached and done with what was written in the...

Hello Brothers and Sisters! Christ is in our Midst!

Hello everybody. I'm a 20 something Orthodox Christian planning on moving to Utah within the next two years. I'm a convert to Orthodoxy after having been raised in a mixed Protestant family. My favorite tops of discussion are the distinctions of Orthodoxy and how it differs in theology and...
