  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone here who are Protestant converts what were you?

LizaMarie, I was chrismated earlier this year and am now at a Greek Orthodox parish. I was previously a Continuing Anglican (and before that Episcopalian). I occasionally considered Catholicism, but couldn't ever make the jump because there are things about Catholicism that I just couldn't...

    Choosing my patron saint

If you're looking for female saints have you considered Dymphna or Irene? They're not "heroes" in the sense of physical combat like Judith or Jael, but Dymphna was a hero of sanctity and the life and martyrdom of Irene of Thessalonica is about the most compelling there is.

    Internetland

Like others have said, if I find my life off balance I don't focus on what I need less of but instead put attention on what's been lacking whether that's daily prayers, Scripture reading, time with family, silence, or whatever. I've also been blessed that the parish I'm now a part of has a...

    Holy Moly! It's HOT here!

Oh yeah, you either need a pool or regular access to one. We use my parent's neighborhood pool pretty regularly :)

    Holy Moly! It's HOT here!

My father is a public elementary school teacher. He has about 1 or 2 more years left in him before it drives him absolutely nuts. He'll either retire or end up in a psych ward! If you do ever end up down here, let me know and I'll be happy to steer you toward the better food and away from...

    Holy Moly! It's HOT here!

San Antonio is great, though I am biased as I am blessed enough to live downtown about 2 miles south of the River Walk and Alamo Plaza. Lots to do, and if you'll allow me to say this there is a large retired community here (I have no idea how close to retirement you may be), especially retired...

    Holy Moly! It's HOT here!

Here in San Antonio, TX it has been fairly cool given the time of year. Highs in the upper 80s and 60s at night. We'll be in the 100s soon enough though.

    Chrismation Sponsor

I didn't give my sponsor anything. At least not that day. We have a good relationship though and periodically gift each other a bottle of wine

    Cravings

I'm with you on that. I'm also seriously missing real dairy half and half with my coffee. I've been going through the different coconut, soy, and almost based alternatives and they're just not the same.

    Cravings

Gurney (and others), what you are expressing is exactly how I feel and as a newly Orthodox Christian it is helpful to know that I'm not alone in being so aware of how I'm falling short. Sometimes when I talk to other converts (especially it seems recent ones) they speak as though they jumped in...

Interesting discussion with a Latin priest...

I don't know what passage, specifically, this priest was referring to but taking a passage somewhat randomly - Acts 17:30 - the word "repent" in English Bibles is μετανοεῖν. This becomes 'poenitentiam agant' (act/do penance) in the Vulgate and in the Douay-Rheims is translated "do penance."...

    Reader-in-training

Greetings all, Those of you who have seen my previous posts know that before becoming a catechumen, I was in the ordination process in one of the Continuing Anglican jurisdictions. After my chrismation on Forgiveness Sunday, Father's started having me learn/train to become a Reader. I am a...
