  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Orthodoxy and Philosophy

Truthseeker, try to get this book: "Aristotle East and West: Metaphysics and the Division of Christendom" by David Bradshaw. It's rather pricey now in book stores but should also be available in libraries. This is an excellent starting point in my opinion. I don't think this stuff is covered by...

Reading history of the Church, and it feels like the RCC flip flops a lot

Do you not understand that for Catholics things like Purgatory or Papal Infallibility or Immaculate Conception are no different than Palamism for us: reaffirming what they think the Church believed from the very beginning? As far as development of doctrine is concerned, I think you...

Reading history of the Church, and it feels like the RCC flip flops a lot

If it's not dogmatic then what is it? And why should it be of any concern then? Are you sure you are not blaming them being inconsistent in their ortho-"praxy" rather then -"doxy"? Precisely. Same as Catholics believe the new RCC dogmas were always taught. So what's the difference between them...

Reading history of the Church, and it feels like the RCC flip flops a lot

How Cross is related to the development of doctrines then? Adding new dogmas is OK and there was nothing wrong with it since they have councils after the schism which they consider ecumenical. Plus they think their Pope have authority to proclaim new dogmas. We may agree or disagree with their...

Reading history of the Church, and it feels like the RCC flip flops a lot

Can you give an example, especially a pre-schism one? To be honest I cannot think of any flip-flops... Do you really think that by "it's finished" he meant the revelations? What about the book of Revelation then, for example? As for the teachings or theology, did the Early Church have for...

    Russia/Syria/Turkey

Libya was taken with NATO having full control over the air which was easy as they practically met no resistance from Libyan air defence: partly because Gaddafi hoped for a settlement with NATO, partly because the Libyan air defence system was too weak to contain NATO air forces anyway. With...

Why have very few schisms happened in the EOC?

Look at the first millennium of Christianity. The vast majority of heresies and schisms originate in the Eastern Church while the West remained Orthodox almost on every occasion. So the East has actually a very good experience in schisms and heresies! The things has obviously changed at around...

Did Rome preside over the seven ecumenical councils?

All but two: I Constantinople did not have any Western Church representation and during II Constantinople the West was represented by African and Illyricum bishops instead of papal legates as the Pope himself was in heresy. A quick summary: Jerusalem, 49 Presided by: Probably St.James Called...

    Russia/Syria/Turkey

I would say that individuals can suffer from all sort of phobias or other psychiatric disorders but a big group of people such as a nation cannot. I would find it entertaining. You are an American living in Russia Rus, right? I guess you are enjoying the best of two worlds then! I think...

    Russia/Syria/Turkey

You are 100% spot on here. Russians haven't changed a bit. Look at the 150 year old events when Russian KGB Czar Alexander the Liberator sent two Russian fleets to New York and San Francisco - you will find a lot of funny similarities between the American Civil War and the Syrian Civil War as...

"Orthodox in communion with Rome!" . .

That's because they are on a healthy diet. Even if there is anything not-so-healthy about garlic salo it's easily neutralised with a bit of honey and pepper horilka. As for Russians, they used to say that their national beauty measurement unit is kilo. Well, actually most of young ladies these...

    I'm in need of prayers

Of course it was right! Prayers with you and your husband. There is no reason to pay too much attention to what certain people are saying but our prayers are with them as well!

Russian Sunrise - A novel by Bruce Walters, M.D.

Hi Bruce and welcome to CF and TAW! Nice to have you here! What probably confuses us is the way you see this two great events - "conversion" of Russia and the Great Schism healing - somehow linked together. What's the connection between them? However this: might be an explanation. The...

... or slightly more if you are in the UK or Ireland. This is exactly what makes a British or an Irish pint much better than an American one. :P
