  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Where do unborn infants go according to Orthodoxy?

While as Orthodox we do use the Fathers to interpret Scripture, it is important to look at what Christ said as well. Christ gave all kinds of warnings to the hypocrites and the greedy, but praised children. I just cannot fathom how the "Augustinian View" is in anyway compatible with what...

    Orthodox Commentaries on Righteous Job?

Thanks everyone. I think I will probably pick up both books, both are pretty affordable.

    Orthodox Commentaries on Righteous Job?

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any Orthodox commentaries (either historic or contemporary) out there on the Book of Job? I recently obtained an icon of Righteous Job and became interested in Orthodox perspectives of this story.

    Legacy of Ben Lomond Crisis

I was not familiar with the Ben Lomond Crisis, but after reading this post, read a bit about it. The funny thing is that a couple of years ago while in Felton California, I stumbled upon the bookstore ran by St. Lawrence Orthodox Church (which apparently, was started by some of the dissenters of...

    Concerns

Isn't there an Orthodox saying that even Saints are allowed to hold one heretical view? Just kidding. I can see how the situation you described in your Parish would be problematic. I'm fortunate that my Parish is relativity free of political discussions. I was raised evangelical, and in the...

    Concerns

I'm not sure that many of your views are necessarily in conflict with Orthodox teaching. Hopefully we are not teaching antisemitism and racism, for example. While we may think of Orthodoxy as "conservative," it doesn't quite fit the neat little boxes of the modern American political scene (thank...

    Anxiety about denominations

Here is the link to a video you might find interesting. It is a video by Father Stephen Freeman, an Orthodox priest, and he discusses taking your time when converting to Orthodoxy: I'm a convert to Eastern Orthodoxy myself, and had a lot of anxiety about converting. In one sense, I wanted to...

    Prayers for the dead

My evangelical friends often raise this point when I mention praying for the dead. Specifically that this story shows that there can be no changes in one's final destination after death. Okay, I will play along. The story also indicates that Lazarus is in "heaven" because he suffered, and the...

    Farming and the Fast

Thanks for the responses. I'm not a farmer or anything, but may get some chickens eventually. As I said, living in the U.S., the solution seems pretty simple, as the eggs can be given away during the long fast periods, since us Orthodox are probably only 1% of the U.S. population or so. I think...

    Farming and the Fast

Perishable dairy and poultry products (milk and eggs) are often not eaten by Orthodox during fasting days, and are not eaten for weeks during the long Lenten fast. This brings up a couple of questions, that came to me today while in the grocery store: 1. How do people who have chickens and/or...

Something to make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm......

Are Orthodox priest able to conduct an effective exorcism with a single phrase? I've never seen one, but I was under the impression that it typically took a bit of work. Perhaps it does have to do with the holiness of the person conducting the exorcism?

God's Not Dead film series *Orthodox Only*

It is off topic, and I generally agree with your point here. But there is something ironic about a twice divorce guy who has flings with adult movie stars, and who wanted to have his daughter aborted that doesn't need forgiveness fitting this description....welcome to America 2018.
