  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Papal Infallibility - FACTS

I disagree. If pope's are not infallible and at least one of them is honest with himself and others on that point, then it will surely change. If even one pope declares "I am not infallible and I declare this officially, " then simple logic will force the admission that the dogma was wrong. If...

What Parts of the Bible Should We Teach Children?

As you say the scriptures refer to our good works as "filthy rags" a term which I have been told would have been better translated as "sanitary napkins." If that is right it is a shame it is not translated that way. It makes a slightly different point. They are filthy and even ritually unclean...

What Parts of the Bible Should We Teach Children?

This message of the scripture is as you say, but that is not the only message. "Be nice." is also a message. "Love your neighbor as yourself." is nice. The good Samaritan was nice. Mother Teresa was nice. I'll bet you that "Being nice" has won far more sinners to God over the years than the...

What Parts of the Bible Should We Teach Children?

I find your comments extremely odd in the context of this forum. You are interacting with a large number of strangers right now on this forum in a manner which is unprecedented in history. Do you feel that this is effecting you in some mysterious way? Is the social structure that you are...

What is the point of Jude?

Could someone please explain Jude to me? Why was it included in the Bible? What was Jude's purpose in writing it and by implication God's purpose in inspiring it? What should it mean to us today? I have read the book several times. I just finished reading the NIV version. It appears to be a...

The Apparent Contradiction Between a Loving God and Eternal Punishment

I think we're talking past each other. What I meant was: Before he made anything else (including Adam) God was All in All. At that time there was nothing else but God. So God was all there was. I do not think that is the state God wants to go back to. If so, why bother making man in the...

The Apparent Contradiction Between a Loving God and Eternal Punishment

At this risk of sounding stupid, if the final destination is God being ALL in ALL and God was All in All to start out with, then why bother with any of it? It seems to me that God's creation of beings different from himself must have some permanence in order to have any meaning. I suppose I...

    interesting finding in genesis

Coincidentally, I was reading Genesis 1 yesterday in the NIV. I have just started a project where I read the Bible 1 chapter at a time and scribble down comments. I had not read this thread yet when I wrote this: Chapter 1: Summary Verse 1: God creates heavens and earth (from nothing?)...

    prayer needed

I know how you feel. We all have doubts and troubling thoughts from time to time. May God bring you peace. If it makes you feel any better Mother Theresa suffered the same thing you are suffering. She suffered for decades and yet God made her life a great blessing to others and used it to spread...

Will accepting the Trinity damn your soul?

I do not think this is necessarily so. The more emphasis one puts on any theological point the more tempted one is to villify those who disagree, but it is possible to resist the temptation. Tsali

Will accepting the Trinity damn your soul?

This post seems like a trick. I suspect it goes something like this ... T: You mean to say you think the Father will punish Jesus for my sins. That's ridiculous! NT: But isn't that what you believe He has already done? T: Doooh! Nonetheless at the risk of being suckered, I think this does...

    Should I donate to JFJ?

Duely noted! I should have thought of that. Stupid of me, really. :)
