  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did the Jews Introduce Morality to the Ancient World?

If one considers ethics to an an agreed upon set of rules for conduct such as the code of Hammurabi and other ancient laws, one might consider "morality" as going beyond conduct to motives for behavior such as the danger of "coveting". One might even ask if philosophies such as Stoicism were...

    Giving Some Thought to Amnesty

President Reagan agreed to an illegal alien amnesty in exchange for tougher laws on immigration and border control. It was not anticipated that successive administrations would actively or negligently fail to enforce these laws. That an amnesty was given with no penalty perhaps contributed to...

WHAT DOES PAUL. SAID OF Eph 1 : 4. !!

Election and predestination are often taken by Calvinists to mean that every individual is selected by God to be saved. I consider that what was predestined was not individuals but the opportunity to enter into a state where anyone who enters could be called elect. This is made confusing...

    Why Christianity

what is the best way to approach the search? Perhaps the best way is to be "of the truth" (John 18:37). This can mean searching for truth and not settling for something that simply feels good. If you sift through all the garbage, you can find a nugget of truth or two and start to put the...

Is Christianity Like a Necessary Drug with Bad Side Effects?

The biggest "price" to pay is persecution. However this usually only applies to real Christians. 2Ti_3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. This is because the world system (which is run by Satan (Eph 2:2)) is hostile to Christianity. Joh_15:19 If...

Church meeting with minister - can you help?

My experiences over 75 years have led me to be less optimistic about being able to make any positive changes in a church. Churches usually have three problem areas, doctrine, personalities, and structure. Most people do not fully appreciate the structural problems created by running a church as...

does it do me any good to read a couple verses of the Bible each day?

There are a variety of ways to study the bible such as word studies, topic studies, and book studies. However, there is a place for brief studies as well. A couple of verses can capture curiosity, be a reminder, or even lead to recalling related verses. In all honesty, I might avoid Leviticus...

How do I stop doubting? (in prayer, or regarding the Gospel)

What do you think? Is there some way to stop doubting? to be finally convinced the Gospel is true? There are basically two choices. Either nothing existed and blew up to become everything which then organized itself into us or we were created. If you see this as true, you can find you can...

I don't like my church - need advice

It is difficult to form a relationship between and individual and an organization. This can leave people at loose ends. It might be more satisfying to see if you can observe an individual who clearly show the love of Christ in their service and conduct. You might ask that person to help you know...

Sometimes.. you have to stand up

"Standing up" does not necessarily mean a combative or confrontation encounter. Joh 18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
