  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A gift to those in OBOB that are received into the Church this year...

Save a few prayers for those of us who are not quite that close to Rome, but headed in her direction...

    Online Catechism?

Thank you all for the sites! So many sites, so little time tonight. However, I will definitely have some research as part of my plan for Lent... Thanks! Peace, Thomas

    Online Catechism?

I'm looking into researching Catholicism and I was trying to find a good online version of the Roman Catholic Catechism. Anybody know of a great site for that? Perhaps a site about the Catechism that is specifically made for an audience of Anglo-Catholics such as myself?

    Fasting

That site was really helpful. I asked some questions about Fasting over in STR and got some help but none as cut and dry as that. Seems to be the norm there. I'm rather curious of the Catholic Church and will be looking into OBOB to learn some. That site will help me make some decisions about...

    Catholic and Orthodox

Filia Mariae, thank you for bringing such wonderful clarifications in here. I haven't disagreed with a thing you have said in this forum at all... You know, I think it'd be great for the East and West to re-unite. Will it happen? Chances are slim and none, at least for anywhere in the near...

    Identify?

Pardon moi, if I am ignorant, but where does that come from? It seems to be one small step above the Baptist view that I grew up with...

    To my brothers and sisters...

That is HIGHlarious! Sometimes they have really good music... I think that 'Ave Maria's are just about the most beautiful song arrangements I have ever heard. However, you are right that the Anglican hymnal is the best there is. And it's quite Catholic too...if you read the texts...especially...

    civil marriage?

The groom and bride are the celebrants in the sacrament of Marriage. Which is why the Episcopal Church recognizes civil marriages and blesses them. I think that's right

    Fasting

Thank you all so much for your helpful answers. I think that Naomi was trying to say that fasting is not something that is done just to be done by us to simply please God, but that it is to be something more - something that we can grow from ourselves. I guess to sort of make it a discipline...

Just what I needed to hear...

Has happened to me also. Usually when I am unstable due to emotional stress or some other type of stress is when it happens. Makes me feel a lot better.

    Transubstantiation

I was saying that because many of my friends who don't believe in the Real Presence like to quote that line as meaning that it is just a symbolic memorial.

    Communion goes to the birds?

I don't see it being a miracle for the Bishop to give permission to Priests to celebrate the Eucharist... Yet in giving the permission, the responsibility is still on the Bishop...he has just entrusted the Priests with the permission to celebrate.

    Transubstantiation

I have heard the literal greek translation of that line, though I don't remember the exact words, it conveys something that is actually done often, not something that is simply brought to mind or "remembered".

    Fasting

Thank you. That helps a lot. I like the idea of using fasting on fridays as a way to get into the habit of praying the rosary(I love the rosary but never pray it for some reason). Christian yoga? I've heard of it but I know nothing about it. Any sites you can link me to? God's peace, Thomas
